xp Matte paint tends to bring out any and all imperfections in walls, so it's not surprising that matte makeup would do the same for human faces.

I'm 40! Do I win a prize?
I'm 37! I had no idea all was going to go to shit for me next year!
― quincie, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:23 (fifteen years ago)
oh jesus
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:34 (fifteen years ago)
it's not about that age in particular. it's about the fact that i looked 10 years older.
11, actually.
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)
i suspect you 38-year-olds don't feel like looking 48 anytime soon, either.
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:38 (fifteen years ago)
haha yeah i was just thinking that
― calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:51 (fifteen years ago)
39, not at all ready to look 49. Can't tell how old I look to other people. I used to look young for my age, now I suspect that my 40th won't be a shock to too many people, except maybe the 80-year-old stranger who asked me in Starbucks the other day whether I planned to have children some day
― ljubljana, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
lol. was that just a random question?
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:08 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, it was a 'hello, I am a kindly old gentleman who is going to push this persona slightly too far' question.
― ljubljana, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:11 (fifteen years ago)
I've realised I look a lot better with more eye makeup and my plan is to very very slowly add a bit more every day to avoid the 'whoa, did you do something to your eyes?' effect.
I ordered the "1000 hours" eyelash dye from their website today!! No idea when it'll get here from Australia. Looking forward to the fabulosity, though.

just don't get latisse
can i tell you what i do to my eyes? i add just a DASH of brown liner to the outer corners - it's like barely visible! but it picks up the brown and makes them look deeper. but like i got to my friend's place last night and she goes "u look surprisingly masculine - are u not wearing any makeup?"
which i think is good for me since i'm a guy
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:17 (fifteen years ago)
Wait, what's wrong with Latisse? Did I miss some shocking revelations about health probs it causes, or something?
― go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:19 (fifteen years ago)
actually no - there was this rumor about how claire danes' eyelids were turning weirdly purple but it seems to be false

― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:21 (fifteen years ago)
and tbh if you look at their website - at the upclose pictures of their lashes after use - claire's look kind of gross. brooke's look good tho.
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:22 (fifteen years ago)
Decided not to wait on the gold eyeliner until I could find some of that Golden Green stuff upthread and bought some Maybelline Modern Metalics Golden Halo to use. I think it looks garish but my husband tells me that I don't look like I'm wearing any eye makeup at all, so I must be wrong.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 23:24 (fifteen years ago)
that's exciting!
― i like lucy (surm), Thursday, 10 March 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)
you know what i sometimes do with my gold? put it on the inner corners of my eyes. just like a touch.
― i like lucy (surm), Thursday, 10 March 2011 01:38 (fifteen years ago)
i need new make-up... well, new foundation/cover-up - maybe this jane iredale stuff? my skin is the most reactive biz around tho. and i am very pale, and even paler because of winter! ohman. i'm going for a facial tmrw at a dermatology place so maybe they will recommend something but i have my doubts.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 10 March 2011 01:48 (fifteen years ago)
i actually like the stila makeup that surm uses, the tinted moisturizer? it seems to work ok for me though has a little shine, i use a bit of powder to try and cut back on that. i'm also very pale. and i've started to kind of worry about aging, there are little fine lines under my eyes now which is weird.
― daria-g, Thursday, 10 March 2011 03:29 (fifteen years ago)
quincie, you need an oil-based eye makeup remover. i have some from almay that seems to do the trick w/ waterproof things but it's v v greasy...
i wish i could do stila, but their shades are too yellow for me.
― tehresa, Thursday, 10 March 2011 05:06 (fifteen years ago)
i bought a lighted makeup mirror! it is so fantastic! in fact, i went all-out and bought a couple of small white vintage tables and a few other things for my girly corner of the bedroom ;)
― just1n3, Thursday, 10 March 2011 05:24 (fifteen years ago)
hey quincie, try a little olive oil for getting your makeup off. i haven't had much luck with decent makeup removers, esp for waterproof mascara, but OO works well for me - it does make my eyes feel filmy afterwards, but 1. that's mostly my sloppy application and lack of caution and 2. it's not painful at all, just makes it hard to read for a bit.
― just1n3, Thursday, 10 March 2011 15:26 (fifteen years ago)
I will try that, thanks!
― quincie, Thursday, 10 March 2011 15:31 (fifteen years ago)
yea daria it is totally good stuff.
guys i did not have time to do my makeup this morning :/
― i like lucy (surm), Thursday, 10 March 2011 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, March 9, 2011 6:22 PM (Yesterday)
i thought brooke's eyelids looked weird! claire's lashes perhaps scarily long
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Thursday, 10 March 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
My friend is learning how to do eyelash extensions. I'm gonna try it out just for the hell of it once she knows how.
― ENBB, Thursday, 10 March 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
i dont understand how those work!
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Thursday, 10 March 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
Me neither! lol I'll let you know once I find out.
― ENBB, Thursday, 10 March 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
They're glued to the base of actual eyelashes, iirc. So they kind of double what you actually have in terms of density, but are longer? They last as long as the eyelashes that they're glued to, so they fall out when your lashes naturally die off and are shed.
― go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Thursday, 10 March 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)
I don't know how I know that.
tbh you seem to know a lot about eyelashes in general!
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Thursday, 10 March 2011 17:03 (fifteen years ago)
Pretty sure the next time I get my brows waxed, I'm going to get my lashes tinted, too. I tried wearing mascara and I really like the way it looked but it irritates my eyes and I rub it all over my face by lunch time.
I know I could DIY, but I'm not much of a DIY person when it comes to the finer points of personal grooming.

xp The inner and outer corners of my eyes are the first places that my eyeliner wears off of, though. I'm getting a little better at drawing it on, so it's getting a little less garish each day.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 11 March 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)
I've never waxed or tweezed my eyebrows. Never seen the need to do so. Is it still common nowadays?
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 11 March 2011 02:50 (fifteen years ago)
yes!!!! 1000 x yes!!!
― just1n3, Friday, 11 March 2011 02:50 (fifteen years ago)
i tried some mineral make-up today after my facial (which was great! o_O) - la bella donna brand - it was really nice! i didn't buy any because i had to see if my skin reacted, and it didn't! tbh i don't think my skin wants any make-up on it, but sometimes it is nice. so maybe i will go to bergdorf's or wherever and buy some when in nyc next week :)
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 11 March 2011 03:23 (fifteen years ago)
blake lively is at this party i am working tonight and she looks so lovely. her face is like -- it glows. i want to try and find her and talk to her but i fear my face isn't holding up as well. i made time to apply makeup mid-day and i actually look really nice even tho i feel like a mess but not compared to her.
― i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 March 2011 03:59 (fifteen years ago)
i mean that she looks nicer not that she looks like a mess. she is like a more bodacious barbie, that girl. i want to go shopping with her!! and try on benefit makeups!!

aaw! :D
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 11 March 2011 05:31 (fifteen years ago)
Okay, I just got my lashes professionally tinted. It cost $27, which probably means I won't do this too often. Right now I look like I have been on a four-day coke and Southern Comfort bender but the nice lady said it will look better tomorrow after I wash my face (I'm not to wash it until tomorrow morning. She actually suggested 24 hours, but that is so not gonna happen). I will report back with final results tomorrow.

She also waxed my brows, so my eyebrows are bright red and my under eye area is the darkest black so I pretty much look like Heath Ledger as The Joker right now.

can't you use toner under your eye or something!
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Saturday, 19 March 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)
ps how do yall use concealer - do you put it all over your eye or just under? i recently started putting it all over the eye and it looks 100% better
i put it all over so i look less tired and also i think it functions as a nice base for eyeshadow.
― tehresa, Saturday, 19 March 2011 01:30 (fifteen years ago)
otm, otm
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Saturday, 19 March 2011 01:30 (fifteen years ago)
I was in for the night so I didn't care too much what I looked like. Anyway, I washed my face this morning and everything that wasn't supposed to be there washed off. It looks pretty good! Really natural but definitely there (at least to me). This totally wouldn't work on its own for folks who wear mascara on the regular, but I like it on me. I look forward to Laurel's report on the DIY tint kit because at $27/pop for a pro job, DIY seems like the way to go. Plus then I could do it on a weekend morning when I wasn't planning on going anywhere and leave it on for the recommended 24 hours without washing my face.
Oh, I don't know how long it lasts bc the woman who didn't wouldn't say! Weird.
