i like patina too! its like the non-sparkle version of that "midnight cowboy rides again" color that i like, most \o_O/ color name EVER. it has very fine sparkles in it and is very beautiful.

:D I also like MCRA (ugh the name though lol) but that's more a special occasion one whereas I were Patina a lot more often.

ENBB, Thursday, 30 December 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i like patina for normal days and midnight cowboy i wear if im playing or going to something fancy

ilx get on my lvl (roxymuzak), Thursday, 30 December 2010 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

ohh i was thinking about that tube fiber mascara stuff.

Never heard of it.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 30 December 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

I'm assuming Patina's greenish in color, going by the name?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 30 December 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

no amount of makeup can cover an atrocious posting style

ilx get on my lvl (roxymuzak), Thursday, 30 December 2010 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going to ignore that.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 30 December 2010 19:10 (fifteen years ago)

quincie and other red-undertone folks, any recs on a lightweight foundation/tinted moisturizer? I used to use Prescriptives Real Rose and it was great but I hear they closed down their counters and are online-only. my hair turned out good btw! It is very light blonde.

teeny, Thursday, 30 December 2010 20:08 (fifteen years ago)

I use MAC's studio fix powder foundation in I think NC35. It is very lightweight, not much coverage but enough to tone down the redness without it looking too makeup-y. And it doesn't oxidize and go orangey on me (which has been a problem with other foundation/TMs).

Cheers to blonde!

quincie, Thursday, 30 December 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

teeny re gold: i dont mean that glittery sparkley crap (no glitter is my fashion rule), just like a subtle sheen

also olay used to be called oil of ulan in australia. my mom was a devotee. as soon as i think about it i can still smell it 20+ years later.

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Friday, 31 December 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

also do you know how hard it is to find black eye shadow without glitter. HARD.

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Friday, 31 December 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

Speaking of gold, I'd like to try using gold eyeliner, but the only eyeliner I can use is powder. Would I be able to use gold powdered eyeliner without looking jaundiced? What shade of gold would work best? (I have light brown/50-60% gray hair and green hazel eyes.)

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 31 December 2010 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

haha I was wearing gold eyeliner in my work ID photo and I look like a smug, jaundiced French chef – an awesome look imo.

^^ black gold here?

i think i need a different eyeliner.. i have one of the crayon kohl from lancome, and it's great but a little too dramatic for every day, i think. (also JUST figured out how to apply eyeliner without it looking horrific)

daria-g, Saturday, 1 January 2011 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

I don't want black in my eyeliner, though. I want pure gold.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Saturday, 1 January 2011 00:49 (fifteen years ago)

ladies if you want a great set of brushes for a good price:

http://kandeethemakeupartist.blogspot.com/2010/12/make-up-brushes-for-christmas.html

they're crown makeup brushes - apparently really good - and she has organised a discount with them but it ends tonight i think.

got mine today - haven't used them yet but they seem really nice.

just1n3, Saturday, 1 January 2011 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

I got my sister MAC brand makeup brush cleaner for xmas. My mom said she cried when she opened it. "Abbs knows just what I want."

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Saturday, 1 January 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

Christine, I have green eyes too. I've been using the sub-pharmacy brand eyeshadow for years called Milani Golden Green. It is a fantastic non-glittery gold with hints of a muted olivey green. I use it as liner on my bottom lashes and on the lid. I found some pics online but they do it so little justice I think I'll just put it on tomorrow and post a photo. btw i think this commentor on makeup alley is otm:
"I use this wet out of a little sample container and it works beautifully. In the pot it seems like a dull blackened olive. However, applied wet, it turns into a beautiful gold-foiled deep olive. The pigmentation isn't as strong as MAC, but it is pretty good. On the medium-high caliber. The color is not too bright; it's amost a smoky-eye color."

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Saturday, 1 January 2011 04:30 (fifteen years ago)

Oh also looked great when I was blonde and still does now im brunette

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Saturday, 1 January 2011 04:31 (fifteen years ago)

Milani? I can get that at CVS (only place around here that stocks it). My eyeshadow is Neutrogena's Simple Sheers in Pebble, and the darker half has a slight gold sheen, so it should look OK with it. Thanks!

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Saturday, 1 January 2011 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Instead of watching the state of the union address yesterday I watched makeup tutorials on youtube. Themakeupgeek is helpful and not annoying! Two thumbs up.

I picked up two new mascaras at CVS, too: CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Waterproof in the color for green eyes (mine are actually hazel) and Maybelline Full and Soft Waterproof in Very Black. Will report my findings.

In other makeup news, I really want some new blush.

quincie, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

I really enjoy watching makeup and skincare tutorials. I find it v relaxing.

dark link (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

eye make up makes me look like a squinty clown. I can pull off lipstick sometimes.

peacocks, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

I'm opposite. Can't pull off lipstick.

Quincilicious: TZA recommended NARS blush in Orgasm once and I've never looked back. Zephyrs has a new set out with the following:

- 0.08 oz Mini Orgasm/Super Orgasm Blush Duo (peachy pink with shimmer/ peachy pink with gold glitter)
- 0.5 oz Orgasm Nail Polish (peachy pink with gold sheen)
- 0.14 oz Super Orgasm Lip Gloss (sheer warm pink with golden shimmer)
- 0.28 oz Mini Orgasm Multiple
(peachy pink shimmer)

Tbh the nail polish looks pretty gross

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

'Zephyrs'??? Good one iPhone spell corrector. That should have read 'Sephora'

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 01:05 (fifteen years ago)

lol i was about to google for zephyrs in case I was missing out on some hot new store.

I still alternate between Milani Luminous, Orgasm and some Sephora brand w/o shimmer.

‎\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Thursday, 27 January 2011 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

Update: I finally realized that what I needed was smudgeproof mascara, not waterproof. Smudgeproof mascara is surprisingly hard to find, but I finally got Cover Girl Professional in Very Black. If I put 2-3 coats of it on it comes close to the superdramatic effect I wanted. Sigh. And the CVS didn't have the Milani Golden Green, so I'll need to keep on looking.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 27 January 2011 01:13 (fifteen years ago)

I only dye my lashes. makes life so much easier.

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:45 (fifteen years ago)

I asked about dying lashes upthread but didn't get any answers. Where can I get or make safe lash dye?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

It's illegal in the USA but you can order it from Australia and probably England? It's called 1000 hr lash. I would suggest getting blue black. My eyes are green and it looks a treat

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:57 (fifteen years ago)

It's illegal in the USA

That tells me all I need to know. I think I'll pass. (I value my eyesight much more than I value having nice dark lashes.)

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

I've been using it for years and I've never had a prob. Some asshole probably poured it in their eyes of something hence the ban.
Anyway ilxors allyzay, laurel and others have used it and still have use of their sight iirc

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:31 (fifteen years ago)

iirc I saw some eyelash tint kit at Sally's, it was maybe $25? Mys sister says it is worth getting someone to do for you, and that "it is cheap and safe to get done at a beauty school."

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, in the UK you can get this done on pretty much any shopping street, in the mall, etc.

ljubljana, Thursday, 27 January 2011 12:29 (fifteen years ago)

aw ally, laurel, Lauren, and I had a lash dyeing party years back. It didn't really take for me, but what a fun day! Memories <3

tehresa, Thursday, 27 January 2011 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

Awwww that's awesome. Whatever happened to laurel (maybe I need to consult jaymc)?

Sunny will you do an updated rundown of illuminators? Good/bad/ugly?

Makeup Alley is all about the blushes these days, it is a thing. Benefit Dallas and a bunch of Nars get mentioned a lot.

quincie, Thursday, 27 January 2011 14:17 (fifteen years ago)

Oh and I totally want to dye my eyelashes--the tips of mine are blond and don't show up at all. Will try the Sally's kit and if that doesn't work maybe sunny will help me smuggle aussie stuff.

quincie, Thursday, 27 January 2011 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

Oh and a report on the CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Waterproof: kinda thin, I need something goopier to get good coverage of my blond tips. Seemed to do more lengthening than thickening. Despite being a maroonish color when swiped on hand, looked more or less black on eyes and didn't seem to do much to accentuate eye color. But it did not flake/run/smudge all day! I give it a B.

quincie, Thursday, 27 January 2011 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'm here!! I loved having dyed lashes, afaic it's the perfect solution. (Mine are blonde.)

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Thursday, 27 January 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

Ally orders/ed the kit from Australia, I think, and it lasts her like a year or so.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Thursday, 27 January 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah it lasts forever

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 16:26 (fifteen years ago)

I'd rather have it done by a professional if I do have it done. Is it done anywhere in the US?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

my eye has been really irritated since this morning and i am concerned i might be developing a little infection. plus side: i get an excuse to buy all new eye makeup?

tehresa, Friday, 28 January 2011 02:13 (fifteen years ago)

we all need to find a day to go to some fancy department store and buy makeup. i think i need some kind of lightweight pressed powder.. maybe an eyeliner that is not so dramatic..

if i wear eye shadow every day (well, every work day) my eyes start getting irritated. maybe it's the weather?

daria-g, Friday, 28 January 2011 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

if its contacts related i never replace my makeup

dark link (roxymuzak), Friday, 28 January 2011 08:20 (fifteen years ago)

Or did I just infect everyone on ILX with my conjunctivitis via the Internet?
