one month passes...

nyc ladies: recommend me a salon, i need to get some kind of reshaping/trim but i am worried that i might need a break from my regular stylist. we've been together nearly ten years and i think it is leading to her giving me the same haircut over and over -- this is a big issue when i'm trying to grow my hair out.

area/price range would be helpful in reviews! just haircut, i do my own color now to save $$$.

thankin u!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

hah! i was just about to call and rebook with her bc i need a color touch up. my hair is kind flat lately though :(

tehresa, Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

she's a good stylist but you know how it is to go to the same person for SO long ...!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, sometimes you need a break.

tehresa, Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

basically i'm trying to grow my hair longer and grow out my bangs. ultimately more like this:

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/jezebel/2008/11/llindsa5.jpg

but not as long since that would take me 3 years. or maybe 2. who knows, anyway the point is that i will not accomplish that if i keep getting an inch+ cut off my hair with front-angled layers. the annoying thing is that it used to not be a problem but i think she just fell in love with that short hair w/longer in front on me.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 8 January 2009 21:55 (seventeen years ago)

wait this is a much better example of what i am going for

guys if i have an ugly haircut how long will it take to grow out? ;_;

horseshoe, Thursday, 8 January 2009 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

Hypothetically speaking, obviously.

How can there be male ladybugs? (Laurel), Thursday, 8 January 2009 23:24 (seventeen years ago)

lol yeah it's not like i vaguely asked for a "short haircut" just out of curiosity and ended up with something kind of bad and now it is growing into something mullety and i'm desperate or anything.

horseshoe, Thursday, 8 January 2009 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

when did it get done? i think you should try to get it "fixed" by another stylist once it starts growing out, in my experience that + time = 3 months before it becomes at least rational again, but my hair grows really fast.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 9 January 2009 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

I sat across from a girl in a meeting today who would be cute except for the fact she apparently did not recolor at all over the holidays because wtf like two inches of brown roots on blonde. I'm weird for this, aren't I.

marlon brando baby tiger (elmo argonaut), Friday, 9 January 2009 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

so my friend who used to do my hair awesomely in rochester is surprise! coming for a visit this weekend and i am so tempted to ask her to color my hair on the cheap but i feel like that would be rude because the reason for her visit is that she is pregnant and stressed and needs a break from her life. so... how do i ask her? uhhh.

tehresa, Friday, 9 January 2009 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

aren't pregnant women discouraged from handling hair dye anyway?

marlon brando baby tiger (elmo argonaut), Friday, 9 January 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

lol the first time she was pregnant people kept giving her shit about dying her hair and she was like "F*** OFF YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS" they literally thought that the 30 min of color would seep into her skin ---> blood ---> harm the baby.

perhaps long periods of exposure to chemicals (like working in a salon bleaching ppl all day) might be bad? but limited exposure i think is fine.

I have decided that I want my next hairstyle to be exact replica of ENBB's so pls to ysi that to me 'k girlfriend?

one month passes...

Ha, I just saw that now. :-)

Ok so now I'm having another (yes, another) hair dilemma. I feel like the last couple haircuts I've had wound up looking really Momish not long after I got them.

My hair is now well below chin my chin and almost one length so I feel like it's TIME. I want something sort of choppy and thinned out, I think. What do you think of these?

http://i42.tinypic.com/25pjvis.jpg

http://i40.tinypic.com/2r2nn1u.jpg

and finally I love this one that someone else posted but generally prefer myself in styles that are A line.

http://i39.tinypic.com/29djl04.jpg

Hmmmmm.

I don't know. I just really want to walk in there with a firm idea of what I want so that I don't end up unhappy again.

It's haircut time. Help me choose between option 1: bob and option 2: short and sassy.

Am off work today and enjoyed Ellen's hair! It was very spiky and fresh.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

i like you with the bob. what kind of short and sassy are we talkin?

pollster grifter (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Friday, 8 May 2009 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

my hair, she is too long, and I am going to a wedding tomorrow so I wouldn't mind stopping on my way home for a cut... but I can't go for the simple chin-length bob because the bride's hair is like that :(

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 8 May 2009 18:12 (seventeen years ago)

Short and sassy: I guess I'm talking a pixie that could also be spiky at times and possibly a lighter hue.

Virginia Plain, Friday, 8 May 2009 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

ergh I am sorry that this is a massive picture but this is what I ended up doing! Is it cute enough that I can stave off the soccer mom label?

thinking about ordering mass quantities of devabrown low-poo online before it disappears forever...

tehresa, Monday, 15 February 2010 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

wondering if i should have mine cut to just below chin-length again, or keep letting it grow out & ask hairdresser to just cut long layers. not sure if the longer hair makes me look older or not!

In addition to my make-up, I also suddenly hate my hair. Cut time. Strongest candidate is somewhere in between http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/LimitedLiabilityGirl/2006-creative-mid-length.jpg and http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/LimitedLiabilityGirl/bob-hairstyles3.jpg.

I love love love an angled bob!

quincie, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

Me too! I have a strong cowlick above my right temple so bangs have never been a good option; I need serious weight on those hairs to control them but less weight everywhere else, for lift. The bob is my natural territory, even if I have been visiting side-parted long hair for a few years.

you're lucky you have so much hair -- you could do anything with it. might as well bob for summer!

any tips on managing really fine hair? any recs on products?

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Monday, 12 April 2010 03:34 (sixteen years ago)

John Frieda Frizz-Ease stuff.

ljubljana, Monday, 12 April 2010 03:37 (sixteen years ago)

my hair is opposite of fine so i have no good ideas. but depends on how you want it to look? i know many people with fine hair - some of them use 'beach hair' type products (incl salt in water in spray bottle) and some use anti-frizz and hair dryer.

i haven't had my hair cut in over 3 months. so ridic that a hairdresser friend of mine (not my best-friend hairdresser, who moved awaaaaay) emailed me asking, sweetly, when i'd like to book an appointment. lol, it's time.

no more springs no more summers no more falls (sunny successor), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 21:15 (sixteen years ago)

no! you look awesome as a brunette!

just1n3, Thursday, 15 April 2010 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

pros: not constantly trying to tame brassiness
kind of sick of blondes
hair extensions would look bitchin

cons: v v hard to go back if i change my mind after the fact
im older now and darker hair highlights everything wrong with yr skin and theres plenty of that

no more springs no more summers no more falls (sunny successor), Saturday, 17 April 2010 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

well i bought some dark brown hair dye but i dont think i can go through with it until im really angry about something.
