What happened? Too short?

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 02:15 (fifteen years ago)

she took too much off, the layers look moronic around my face, and she just didn't even really ask me what i wanted before she started cutting. strange, because she trimmed it last time and was really attentive!

tehresa, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

Stylist etiquette q - I found a great salon near me, and used to see one particular stylist, E, who did my highlights and cuts. One time she wasn't available so I went with this other guy in the same salon, D. He was pretty good so I have been back to him a few times because he works more days so is usually around. However the last time was not so good and I want to go back to E. I went to E just for highlights a few days ago (just cos she did a great job last time) and D was also working. Will he be offended if I ask for E from now on? I don't really know how these salons work but it's an independent place and presumably the stylists work independently in there.

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 17 November 2010 22:19 (fifteen years ago)

he will probably be offended, stylists are really touchy about this stuff. but i say, in the end it's your hair, have the person of your choice do it!

tehresa, Thursday, 18 November 2010 23:46 (fifteen years ago)

two months pass...

so sunny posted on some other thread about how she cuts her own hair, and i decided to follow her lead today and do the same, since i'm too cheap and lazy to go to a real stylist. i tied it up in a ponytail and cut off about 4"! and then i kind of tried to feather my bangs a little. it looks pretty good! i mean, it's not super amazing, but a super amazing hair cut only lasts 5mins on me anyway, since my hair grows out so damn fast and i'm not the greatest at styling it. now i think i should invest in a pair of thinning scissors!

im so proud!

i might not ever go to a hairdresser again!

two weeks pass...

finally getting a cut today. i picked a salon based on mostly favorable yelp reviews and being sort of in my price range (damn, salons around here are $$$). i'm nervous!

i really miss my old stylist! <3 u, cheri. plz move to dc.

tehresa, Saturday, 5 February 2011 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

I will rep for Ren33 at Fringe in Gtown. Not too $$ and great cut (though I'm no good at maintaining it).

ljubljana, Sunday, 6 February 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

Any tips for cut- your-own-bangs youtubes that are reliable and won't cause regret?

ljubljana, Sunday, 6 February 2011 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

man, the guy i saw had the coolest blow out process which involved using three (3) round brushes and blowing then wrapping sections in one, leaving it there to set, then moving repeating with a second brush in the next section, then a third. i think he did a pretty decent job of leaving most length and cleaning up layers/shaping. we'll see how it looks when i style myself.

was trying on dresses for an even next weekend and realized i may need to start dyeing again... my hair just looked so washed out next to pretty, bold jewel tones and fancy dress colors.

tehresa, Sunday, 6 February 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

Jeezum crow, that sounds complicated. The most I can do is to section my hair into layers with clips and dry one layer at a time. Re dyeing, everything looks so blah in the winter -- skin, hair, make-up shades. I feel like brunettes weather it a little better because at least they have a strong shade to be in contrast to.

Looking forward to getting my hair did, myself, after this moving craziness is over.

my brunette has not been refreshed since april so it's kind of a faded brown with some red tones and because my winter skin is so dull and pale, i'm thinking i might need to fix this situation. is there anything i can do from home for a temporary color boost that is not a semi-permanent dye? i don't really want to pay for a salon dye job this week, but i also need to do something.

tehresa, Sunday, 6 February 2011 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

basically, i don't want to *change* my color, just wake it up a little?

tehresa, Sunday, 6 February 2011 16:41 (fifteen years ago)

No clue. I mean there are a hundred brands/shades to try but I've never dyed my hair any color remotely "real" looking, so I dunno which is best for this thing or that thing.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Sunday, 6 February 2011 16:42 (fifteen years ago)

i wonder if i used a color-depositing shampoo every day for a week if that would work. hmm.

tehresa, Sunday, 6 February 2011 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

i've tried that (color depositing shampoo) and it didn't do much for me, but i was expecting a little more than it was willing to give i think

ergonomically chromium plated fish slice (La Lechera), Sunday, 6 February 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

My mom used to use the Roux hair rinses for temporary color - I haven't tried them in years but am tempted. I keep toying with the idea of not coloring, but it's too much fun. Though kind of a pain now my hair is so freaking long.

Jaq, Sunday, 6 February 2011 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

went with the john frieda color gloss... left it in for about 20 min or so (long enough to do the dishes - also wore a face mask at the same time! 3 birds, 1 stone!). i will try to repeat the gloss as many times as i can in the next week in hopes that i'll look a little more put together by saturday!

tehresa, Sunday, 6 February 2011 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

What does everyone reccomend for a one-day hair color? I don't want to change the color of my hair, but I suspect that it wouldn't be a good idea to show up for a job interview with grey hair.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 7 February 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know if a one-day color exists.
they sell lots of powdery root cover up things, if that's what you need. but for all-over color, i'm not sure there's a way to cover for just a day.

tehresa, Monday, 7 February 2011 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

One-day different looks are what wigs are made for.

Jaq, Monday, 7 February 2011 00:42 (fifteen years ago)

seriously, because any haircolor that only lasts one day is also likely to wind up on your interview clothes
haircolor on your suit = major nagl

ergonomically chromium plated fish slice (La Lechera), Monday, 7 February 2011 00:46 (fifteen years ago)

xp The wig thing came to my mind too, but there's no way I'd be able to afford one.

two weeks pass...

Oh you're so doing the break-up haircut! :)

I love them all tbh. Which are you leaning towards? I sort of have the middle one going on as of last week.

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

Laurel you have good taste in haircuts...I saved those pics to my haircut file for future reference!

wizards of wonder are the keepers of knowledge (Abbbottt), Friday, 25 February 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

Break up, nothing! I haven't had a hair cut in 6 months or spent any money on myself: no moisturizer, no hair products, no cuts or color, no hoisery, no new foundation or make-ups, nothing. I need EVERYTHING now.

Leaning towards the bottom, prob, because let's face it: I am not going to blow-dry or straight-iron my hair every day. I don't even OWN a straight iron. So I'd like it to look good mussy. I'll have to get that volume on top somehow but I'm thinking...spray wax? Eh.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 25 February 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

I actually love my spray wax for the volume up top part. It works really well for that.

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

Oh and girl it sounds like you have some beauty product shopping to do. ENJOY EVERY MINUTE. :)

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

Alternative to spray wax: Don't wash for three days, add cornstarch to roots to mop up oil, get another 2-3 days of wear out of it with 2 or 3x the volume. Ahhhhh laziness, my old friend.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 25 February 2011 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

Glad to help, Abbott! I love inverted & asymmetrical bobs, but these days you have to sidestep the Posh/Paris whirlpool that accounts for about half the GIS results.

EN: I will! Mario Badescu, on the list. Spray wax, on the list. Matte black nail polish, on the list. New glasses, on the motherfucking LIST.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 25 February 2011 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

I can't go more than one day without washing mine. :( I did use the cornstarch trick a couple weeks ago though and it was awesome!

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

Mario Badescu on the list - I've been using the green enzyme cleanser and I LOVE it. It smells amazing.

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

The drying cream is magic.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 25 February 2011 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

Close, but that's the lotion. They make a cream one with a cement-like consistency, that stays where it's put. That one.

go peddle your bullshit somewhere else sister (Laurel), Friday, 25 February 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I know which one you mean - I think I had a sample of it once.

ENBB, Friday, 25 February 2011 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

i can't see the middle photo bc it's too big and i'm on this totally sketchy wifi at work BUT i lovelovelove that mussed-up asymmetrical bob look! i've been using a volumizing mousse in my hair which is pretty good, but the true revelation that i have had is motherfuckingTEASING my hair - using a round boar bristle brush. gives me awesome volume, no more flat cowpat hair anymore!!!

just1n3, Friday, 25 February 2011 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

laurel i love the first one!
i used to LOVE LOVE LOVE spray wax when i had shorter hair.
yay!!!

tehresa, Saturday, 26 February 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

i love the first and the third. not crazy about the second at all. the first looks like a whole lot of styling invoved though? my vote is for the third. so cuet!

also on beauty product buying - smashbox is having a 25%-50% sale RIGHT NOW

calling planet dearth (sunny successor), Sunday, 27 February 2011 11:12 (fifteen years ago)

i love this style of haircut, with the layered long thick whisps in front - do it, laurel!
i'm thinking about growing my hair long again. it needs some serious attention right now though, as any semblance of layers have grown out. i like the front longer like in these pics!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 27 February 2011 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

Okay! Plan is to make my appt for Sat and unveil the new hair-did in the evening. Door Number Three it is!

loreal mousse sublime: has anyone used this?

i am feeling like i should dye my hair?

tehresa, Friday, 11 March 2011 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

I wish my mother would stop nagging me to dye my hair. I like salt-and-pepper hair.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 11 March 2011 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

Is there a particular hair style that works well for wearing a helmet? Is there a helmet-hair-proof hairstyle (besides the Sinéad O'Connor)?

Looking Man (Abbbottt), Thursday, 24 March 2011 23:37 (fifteen years ago)

Straight styles with fine hair that lies really flatly on the head to begin with? Requires actually having straight, fine hair.
