it kills me that the only shoe stores between the subway and my work are searle and chuckie's.

i have so far resisted the temptation to check out what otto tootsi plohound has on offer for fall/winter.
― lauren, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)
every time i go in there, i am really disappointed :-(
haven't checked their winter stuff yet though, i was on a summer quest. i think i'm just gonna give up on sandals and get some good fall/winter stuff.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)
maybe i'm not missing much, then. that's a relief.
― lauren, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)
i wld never in a million years spend $300 on fake-leather boots!
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)
The equestrian boots remind me muchly of Felicity Redwell, so I am getting a good vibe off of them.
Any suggestions for boots I shoud buy? My beloved Campers have been much maligned on this board.
My friend only suggested lace-up knee-high Docs--for that wonderful 1980s British vibe.
― Virginia Plain, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)
Lauren and I are going to exhaust the possibilities of online boot shopping and still end up buying the same pair, I fear. :) I'm not really in the market right now, though.
bell, were the "waterproof" boots Aquatalia? I was just telling L how I liked all their stuff but wtf for $250?>?
― Laurel, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)
Mary, your friend who thought Frye boots were cheesy has apparently not looked at their website lately? They make A LOT more than just the old pull-on cycle boots that my dad wore 30 years ago. And not with sundresses, either. I think they're wonderful but $470 is -- ulp -- not going to work.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)
L, did you notice that the CC boots from revolve are $30 cheaper than the endless.com price? what gives, endless?
― lauren, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)
No!! I guess that's the cost of the "free" overnight shipping and "free" returns? I should learn to be more suspicious....
― Laurel, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)
revolve has free returns and (i think) free ground shipping, which is still pretty great.
― lauren, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
no - they were some weird finnish brand that i can't remember - i want to go back in the store and write down the name to see if i can find them for less online. they were at searle and the mark up their shoes so much. i am just scared because the minute i walk in there the sales ladies descend like vultures and try to pressure you into buying everything.
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
ok i found them on searle's website - i guess the ARE real leather? http://www.searlenyc.com/store/product999.html
i mean, not bad for rainboots but still $$$
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:05 (seventeen years ago)
Searle are so ridiculous. Just google the boots and see who else sells them?
― Laurel, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)
i tried that. i dont think they have stores outside of scandinavia.
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)
plus they are not even THAT cute. they were just super comfy and cuteish for bad weather.
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:18 (seventeen years ago)
Does anyone have any experience with the Corso Corma or whatever brand of boots I posted up there (link is http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=CORS-WZ49&c=Boots&s=C&d=Shoes)? Unknown footwear brands make me nervous. . .
― quincie, Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)
my mihara flats finally came in the mail yayyyyyyyyyy! they are perfect. so beautiful and comfortable.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:14 (seventeen years ago)
ooh
re: corso como, i've never seen or worn this brand, but looking at their stuff on piperlime, i wanted more than 4 pairs of their shoes/boots, which is saying something
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)
guys, i think i'm kinda getting into heels
so tall, so standing-up-straight, so mostly-legs it does something to my body that allows me to wear a belt at my waist, and i'm short-waisted! i promise not to wear heels all the time tho, for my feets health
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)
which flats, bell?
rroby, i love heels so much. commuting in them, not so much. and the whole carrying shoes to work to change when you get there thing just seems so icky to me :\
― tehresa, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)
http://www.shoeblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/cmlumil_black_pr_550.jpg these! they rule.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)
oooh now i remember! <3
― tehresa, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)
so cute
i've seen some cute little bags made specifically for shoes - i know it's more to carry to work, but at the same time, i'm pretty used to changing from boots to shoes for indoor wear anyway during like 5-7 months of the year...
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)
my mom had a great shoe bag in the late 70s/early 80s. it was burnt orange pseudo-leather and shaped rather like an avocado.
― lauren, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)
i have a shoe drawer at work that i keep heels in. though i'm usually too lazy to change them.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)
that sounds like a bag i wld like
i'm stepping up my whole style game now that i'm moving into a job where i will likely be constantly inspired re: styley things, and i think heels will play a part in this
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)
there is absolutely no chance in hell of me commuting in heels. 40 minutes crowded train + 20 minutes walking = so not gonna happen
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:26 (seventeen years ago)
though i see women doing this all the time. they are obviously aliens. or have a higher pain threshold or magic feet or something.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)
or higher arches. i have 2 friends who have crazy high arches and claim that heels are more comfortable for them than flats.
― lauren, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)
Well, ideally around a 1.5" heel or so. Those totally flat ballet slippers that have been popular for a couple of years are DEATH to my feet.
― Laurel, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)
oh yeah, i have non-existant arches.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:33 (seventeen years ago)
i have crazy high arches and i need a bit of a heel - super flat shoes are super ow - i need at least an inch of heel or cushion or whatever
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:35 (seventeen years ago)
these girls are a special case, laurel. both routinely wear 3"+ heels as if they were fuzzy slippers.
― lauren, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I didn't think I was one of those people! I sprained my ankle on Saturday, so I'm feeling a little nervous about heels right now.
― Laurel, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)
i am wearing 3+" wedges today! i know they are not "real heels" but i am bascially 6 feet tall in them and it feels pretty awes. i have never worn "real heels" over 2.5" high tho.
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)
i got the high arches. i think that is part of why i have such a difficult time finding flats i like! i have some 3 1/2" or so wedges. i can walk ok in them, it's just you have to take really tiny steps bc the surface area of the bottom of the shoe is cut in half or something!
― tehresa, Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)
hm - maybe it depends on the shoe tho? the simple advice of 'just walk a little slower and with slightly shorter steps' (my steps are v long in first place) seems to have done wonders for me
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)
http://www.6pm.com/n/p/p/7278580/c/216.html i just ordered these (i checked it with laurel, and she said it was ok :)
i don't really love them but come on, $50.
― bell_labs, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)
(also i SWORE i wasn't going to buy anything online this week, oh well. i do need sensible work boots and i'm not going to find a cheaper pair. also that site has like 6 pages of campers for $50 fyi)
― bell_labs, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)
Ahaha! Wear them in good health, lovely!
― Laurel, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)
okay so rrobyn put something into my head that I can't get rid of
http://i38.tinypic.com/11awyfm.jpg
Opinions? I wanted to go for pink but it's a light pink and that + salt + slush sounds like a bad combination, these I would like to think would at least wear it better... they are customizable from Timberland's website for $180 (eep) but look warm and walkable. Anyone own Timberland boots of any design, who can comment on warmth of shoe?? I go to North Bay sometimes in the winter, where it's not unheard of to see 5-6 feet of snow!!
I'm kind of sick of tall black "dressy" boots after wearing similar for the past few years..
― Finefinemusic, Thursday, 25 September 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)
oh man, my friends are hating those and calling them santa's shoes :( I just want something warm, comfortable, low heeled and available in size 11 that isn't your standard black boots for once! sigh
― Finefinemusic, Thursday, 25 September 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)
I also hate brown.. so my options are pretty much grey or red
I would go to an Army-Navy supply store and buy paratrooper jump boots before I'd pay $180 for those. Admittedly the color is cheering, but overall it wouldn't be a good trade-off for me.
Another thing: I don't know how warm they'd be, the website specifies that they're waterproof but says NOTHING about any kind of insulation...? Also I have a beef with the catalog copy, it says "perfect for jeans". Jeans?? What kind of jeans can you pull ABOVE YOUR KNEES to lace up a 14" boot shaft? Puhleeze. Maybe my GAP overalls from college.
― Vampire romances depend on me (Laurel), Thursday, 25 September 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)
Fair enough.. I've never worn Timberlands but I see them up here on people all the time and they generally look warm! It's funny that you suggest paratrooper boots because I was a total army boots girl for years and years before buying a few pairs of classic black boots. Hah. I figured the only way I could go was crazy red and rugged soled! I will keep looking..
― Finefinemusic, Thursday, 25 September 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)
Hmmm! Well, there are a couple of ex-Army boots types around here, so you're in good company (quincie?).
Did you look at Sorel? We used to have their kids' boots when I was little, and just keep handing them down in the family...I'd trust 'em, and I kind of like these!

DUDE HOW CUTE ARE THESE IN HERRINGBONE??@??

i have these for when the weather turns really serious. they come off at the office, of course. if it's just mildly gross outside, i wear these (from sporto; insulated, which is v. important):
