looks better irl. also sadly kat von d's eyeshadow primer is the best one available. i say this after much reconnaissance.

do you like it better than the urban decay one?
― master of retardment (ENBB), Saturday, 25 September 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)
yes i do! it definitely works better for me; i might have weird eyelids though. they're like, very smooth and slick. haw. when i started wearing that glittery color^ i really needed a primer or my face would be completely covered in glitter within an hour. oh and the kat von d one i use is the plain opaque one. i can't use anything gel or shiny. just doesn't work.

What was the name of Milan's Orgasm knockoff? I don't feel like loading 600 more messages in Zing.

Fucking Clinique. I went shopping with my mum a while ago and we were at the Clinique counter - she needed some stuff and wanted to get enough for the free gift thing they often have. I knew I was going to be running low on my Clinique foundation soon enough so picked up a bottle of it - Superfit Makeup, shade = Petal. I took a second look and noticed it was a bit more orangey than I expected... tried a sample on my skin and it was about 4 shades darker than me (I usually need the palest shade of any makeup). But it was the right shade name so ???
I went back to Sephora taking my own bottle with me and sure enough the shade is completely different. I had to get a different line (Superbalanced - also 'petal' which was ok - but I'm not overjoyed with as it's thinner) as none of the shades in Superfit were light enough. IF YOU ARE DISCONTINUING A SHADE OF MAKEUP DON'T CALL A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ONE THE SAME NAME! Buying perfect foundation is practically impossible as it is without these shenanigans!
― Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)
that's fucked up
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 20:29 (fifteen years ago)
uh that sucks. If MAC ever discontinues or changes my StudioFix powder foundation in NC25, I am fucked.
So recently I decided it was time for me to jump on the concealer bandwagon, so I picked up some TIME BALM per ENBB's recommendation. Not bad! Not sure it makes that much of a difference, but it blends well and stays put, so at least it is not offensive
Warning: Benefit's Stay Don't Stray primer is not as good as UDPP. Avoid.

Roxy iirc you liked Kat von D's primer. Had you tried the Urban Decay one? If so, how do they compare?
― quincie, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:39 (fifteen years ago)
Rox is the primer you're talking about Revlon or Maybelline? I was using one that was the latter but abandoned it because I don't think I really need it.
I'm so mad. My friend who is an esthetician gave me some fancy soap which I used for like two days and it totally fucked up my skin. ugh. I am such a sucker for fancy looking things even if they're not necessary and my old standbys are working a treat.
Qunicie I'm glad you like the Time Balm stuff. I stopped using that in favor of some Trish McEvoy stuff because I forgot how to sleep this summer and was in need of some serious help in the dark circles arena.
― master of retardment (ENBB), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
I may need to step it up as well, but maybe the Time Balm can serve as concealer training wheels?
What kind of brush do you use for your concealer, or do you use fingers only?
― quincie, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:45 (fifteen years ago)
Oh and I bought the Kat Von D primer as per Roxy's rec. It's definitely thicker than the Urban Decay one and would probably work better for serious eye make-up. The UD one was fine I just wanted to try this one out. It does work well and I can see how if you had oily lids this might be better. It's some serious stuff.
― master of retardment (ENBB), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:45 (fifteen years ago)
tbh I usually use my finger (ring finger only since it is the weakest and won't pull skin as hard) even though I know you're supposed to use a brush. I do have a Shu Uemera concealer brush that I got as part of a gift set that I use if I remember.
― master of retardment (ENBB), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:47 (fifteen years ago)
Hmmm I do have somewhat oily lids. . . maybe I will stop at Sephora and test-drive both.
My current quandry is what to do about the fact that there is a BUMPIT AS SEEN ON TV OMG LOL in my Amazon shopping cart. . .

i am feeling like i need an entire revamp of my makeup. it's just not working anymore and always feels like it looks bad or is sliding off. :(
― tehresa, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:17 (fifteen years ago)
Man I sound like I wear so much make-up if you just read this thread. I really don't, I just buy tons of it. I rarely buy clothes but products (yes it extends to shower stuff and lotions etc.) and cheap jewelry are my thing.
― master of retardment (ENBB), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:28 (fifteen years ago)
yes enbb is otm re: the KVD primer as compared to urban decay. i do have oily eyelids, and the kat von d one (the opaque one, not the champagne colored one or the glossy one - can't speak for them) is thick and strong enough to hold even v. glittery and otherwise annoying eyeshadows to my eye with zero problems
enbb: it's actually called revlon AGE rewind, i got the name wrong
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:44 (fifteen years ago)
i've been using gold liner, i don't know if i told u guys. i really like it - it's subtle but it adds a real nice glow. one i have is matte, and thinner than the other one, which is thicker and has some sparkle
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:50 (fifteen years ago)
the thin 1 is Revlon and the sparkly one is LORAC
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:52 (fifteen years ago)
sometimes i use the revlon gold eyeliner over top of my normal black eyeliner
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)
as in, stacked on top, not actually layered over it
ohhhh i layer the gold on top of my normal brown

:)
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)
also i broke out my Benefit Miss Popularity powder again. it is actually a really beautiful staple, and works fantastically on my brow bones and in the inner corners of my eye, tho sometimes it is too sparkly for the latter. it is white but kind of translucent and shimmery.
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)
i have probably talked about miss popularity before, though. i was really excited when i first discovered it a couple of years ago. i really like shimmery makeup sometimes. i also tend to repeat myself about these things; it's just how i am.
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)
Gold eyeliner... Intriguing.
― Regular Stormy (Jenny), Thursday, 14 October 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)
indeed. is it liquid or pencil??surm, does miss popularity have any glitter in it?also I've decided nutrogena's sheer shimmer in white is the best highlighter EVER

mines a soft pencil
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2010 05:59 (fifteen years ago)
i have gold eyeliner and i like it a lot. it's more coppery really. i have green eyes so it contrasts nicely.
― The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Thursday, 14 October 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)
mine's a pencil too. the thicker one by LORAC is also pretty coppery. brings out brown.
miss popularity def has shimmer. i guess u could call it glitter, but it's more fine than that. it's pretty much fairy dust.
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
What's a good gold eyeliner for blue eyes/fair skin do you think? I have now decided my life is incomplete without it.
― Regular Stormy (Jenny), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)
:) my life definitely was! and i didn't even know it until somebody gave me a pencil as a present!
honestly i think the revlon would work. it's sort of a noble gold, so it would probably look great with blue. and rox, u have pale-ish skin, right?
i'm sure there are a lot of fancier ones out there, but it's good in a pinch.
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)
I have a silver pencil, I don't know why I thought it wd be a good idea b/c I am so not a "cool" tones person, and now I also rly rly want to try a gold one.
― I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
I find pencils very hard to use compared to cake eyeliner (applied wet with lil brush). Please teach me.
― quincie, Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
the thick soft pencil i have in gold is really nice for shading, which makes it really nice for fall, and easier to use
― janice (surm), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)
How do you get a pencil down close to the lashline and not, like, pull on your eyelid to form a wobbly line???
― quincie, Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)
And do you have to keep them super sharp or . . .?
q, I do love liquid liner, but I imagine a pencil would make a much more indefinite line so that you don't see the edge of the color, you just see the brightening or eye-catching effect.
― I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)
Also the place where I think I might like to use a nice goldy pencil is along the waterline under the eye? Seems like a good place for a highlight.
― I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
I have a copper-colored liquid eyeliner I really love. I think gold would be fun!
