Where did you go?

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 13:24 (sixteen years ago)

mario tr1occi or something like that - i can't remember the spelling

just1n3, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

my mum also got her makeup done, and her woman did a much a better job than mine

just1n3, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

Never heard of it, but it was kind of a slim chance that I would have. I'm sure the pictures will be lovely!

(I've never had my hair or make up done for any kind of formal event and NOT immediately washed it out/taken it off. I finally learned my lesson and refused to submit to the hair stylist on my last go-round as a bride's maid, much to the consternation of the bride's mother (who had taken me aside at the rehearsal dinner to tell me to make sure I at least washed my hair (not because I looked like a dirtbag; just because she was a bitch on wheels)).)

i wish more people who did makeup for events like that remembered that makeup is supposed to make you look like a prettier version of you, not like another person. how hard is that to remember? maybe if you do people's makeup all day, it becomes exhausting to find out about each customer and what would be best for her? why is this endeavor almost always so disappointing?!?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

I wear MAC's "Syrup" too. :D

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 15:29 (sixteen years ago)

xp i know!! my in-laws' guest bathroom has one of those mirrors with the lights around it, those ones that show up EVERY LITTLE THING on yr face, and when i looked at myself i could see the foundation about to slide off my face. gross.

just1n3, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 01:50 (sixteen years ago)

so i tried testing this foundation today but the picture would not give me an accurate color eye. in my bathroom it looks to dark. in pic in natural white i look washed out. sigh. i think i will wait until next week and go shopping with sister and make her tell me what looks good :D

justine, did you not take the makeup you bought with you? you should have had her use that stuff.

tehresa, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

not to be critical, i just meant i thought that was specifically why you bought it.

tehresa, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 01:53 (sixteen years ago)

i wish i had! in fact, i wish i had just done my own! i bought that makeup for our engagement photo shoot and for our reception (which was the day after the ceremony). BUT i was so rushed the day of the engagement thing that i slapped it all on really fast anyway! which is why i'm glad i bought stuff that i will get a lot of use out of anyway. i really love the mac lipstick, actually.

just1n3, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

i have a thing against mario tr1cocci. i had a gift cert for a facial there, and the woman who did the facial said i had the dryest skin she'd ever seen. way to be tactful, lady. fuck you. i do have obscenely dry skin, but at a salon, you're supposed to be pampered, not treated like a freak.

the engagement photos are great, justine. you both look lovely and happy. :)

JuliaA, Saturday, 3 April 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

yes justine you look great in the pics!

billion holla baby (roxymuzak), Sunday, 4 April 2010 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

thanks rox!

SO i have been wearing makeup pretty much every day since i bought this mac stuff, except workshop days, AND I LIKE IT! in fact, when i had to work in the store the other day, my co-worker told me i looked 'pretty' for the first time!

i can't believe i've never owned blush before. it's changed my life.

just1n3, Sunday, 11 April 2010 01:06 (sixteen years ago)

also, the mac girl taught me an amazing trick, which probably everyone here already knew but:

putting eyeliner on the inside of the top lid - i always wondered how women got that thick lash look and now i know!

just1n3, Sunday, 11 April 2010 01:08 (sixteen years ago)

A good blush is truly a godsend, particularly if you are just feeling/looking crappy.

I am not totally clear on this "inside the top lid" technique? Like, do you come in *under* your lashes to do this? The side of the lashline adjacent to the eyeball itself and not the eyelid/brow side of the lashline?

*is confused*

quincie, Sunday, 11 April 2010 02:16 (sixteen years ago)

under the lashes, adjacent to the eyeball - i know, revolutionary!

just1n3, Sunday, 11 April 2010 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

like, i always thought it was done ~above~ the lashes, which i could never ever do, it always looked super crooked and awful.

just1n3, Sunday, 11 April 2010 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

Whoa--I have never heard this! I will try it! I am pretty good with cake eyeliner applied with a wet brush the usual way, but I like the idea of something more subtle. I tend to wear BIG lipsticks so I try to take it easy on the eye makeup, but my lashes definitely need help.

quincie, Sunday, 11 April 2010 02:56 (sixteen years ago)

how do you prevent eyeliner from getting on yr contacts???? woah

my sis bought orgasm blush after trying mine she liked it so much!

i still need foundation. i have tested like 5000 kinds and i can not find one that is precisely what i want.

tehresa, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:20 (sixteen years ago)

If I put eyeliner on the inner rims of my eyes it just washes off.

Just bought this awesome eyeliner tonight. Excited.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

i don't wear contacts so not sure how it'd work but: you kind of have to pull you upper eyelid up, and you also have to look up so you can't actually see what you're doing in the mirror, but the rim of the lid itself just guides the pencil, so it's not as difficult as it seems. and then it kind of rubs on to your bottom rim, so you don't have to worry about applying it there.

just1n3, Sunday, 11 April 2010 06:32 (sixteen years ago)

ugh, me too. When you find the dream foundation let me know, huh?

Prescriptives Virtual Skin!

ljubljana, Sunday, 11 April 2010 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

had a moment of 'oh shit parking meter's running out this looks pretty good!' and just went with the mac studio fix fluid foundation. it does look good - hope it wears well! i also got the syrup lipstick - what a perfect shade! it's like the orgasm of lip colors?

tehresa, Sunday, 11 April 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, pretty much. I love it.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Sunday, 11 April 2010 21:50 (sixteen years ago)

Damn I am going to have to stop at MAC this week for that lippie. And Sephora for that blush.

quincie, Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

you guys! i saw orgasm at sephora today and it was pretty glittery! i am telling you that penny lane is the shit! it's a cream blush, very good for very fair people and there is NO GLITTER at all. i bought a new package today, in fact.

just try them both on your hand, just try it! i'm telling you that penny lane is my personal dream blush.

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Sunday, 11 April 2010 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

OK I am going to check out Penny Lane after my Orgasm runs out (errrr) because while I love the shade, it does have a little too much sparkle for me. Good rec! :D

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Monday, 12 April 2010 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

i don't feel like orgasm is overly sparkly! i like it because it is a nice flush since i can't use bronzer.

tehresa, Monday, 12 April 2010 03:24 (sixteen years ago)

I've used MAC foundation in the past and I don't think it wears well on me...starts to look cakey and weird, hafta wash face and start over.

kate78, Monday, 12 April 2010 05:50 (sixteen years ago)

i just want someone to give it a chance -- the color looks a little clay-like in the display, but i swear that when it's on, it looks totally natural and appropriate for pale people. if you are looking for something flattering and natural-looking with zero sparkle, it is a good choice.

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Monday, 12 April 2010 11:56 (sixteen years ago)

wait is Penny Lane Nars or another brand? I will check it out, being somewhat anti-sparkle.

quincie, Monday, 12 April 2010 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

although tbh I am kind of scared of cream blush--seems harder to apply than powder!

quincie, Monday, 12 April 2010 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

it's Nars -- the same cream blush, just a different shade

like i said, it looks kind of unappealing in the container because you may think, "that's not pink enough" or "wow that looks like clay" but it's good! i swear!

a little dab on the finger, smear around on your face -- it doesn't set quickly or anything, you can move it around once it hits your face

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Monday, 12 April 2010 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

ps do not put it ALL OVER your face (ie nose, eyebrows, chin) :)

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Monday, 12 April 2010 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

ENBB, I have that liner, but in purple.

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

I have it in three colors and I love it.

btw - I ordered that Penny Lane Nars blush based on La Lechera's recs and some great reviews I read online. Fingers crossed that it works for me but I have a feeling it will. If it doesn't I will call upon Sephora's excellent exchange policy so I felt OK ordering it without trying first. Will report back.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

Yaay hope you like it.

What kind of eyeliner is used for this below-the-upper-lash-line techinique (i.e. which MAC pencil)?

quincie, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

i think mine is the photogravure technokohl eyeliner? in dark dark brown

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:45 (sixteen years ago)

quincie, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

la senora (surm), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

I bought the syrup lipstick yesterday. Nice stuff! Also picked up the philosophy microderm stuff mentioned on the skincare thread.

kate78, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 00:04 (sixteen years ago)

so guys i bought that dior airflash 3 or so weeks ago and ive been carrying it around in my bag still in the box because i cant work out how you spray foundation on your face and not get it in hair/eyes/on clothes etc

i fake it so real, i am beyonce (surm), Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:18 (sixteen years ago)

the question: GOLD or PEARLESCENT WHITE eye shadow

strongly leaning toward gold as usual, but i could be swayed

i fake it so real, i am beyonce (surm), Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:26 (sixteen years ago)

how about gold with a little dab of pearlescent white right over your iris?

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Saturday, 15 May 2010 00:27 (sixteen years ago)

that is genius
