Me too! I have a strong cowlick above my right temple so bangs have never been a good option; I need serious weight on those hairs to control them but less weight everywhere else, for lift. The bob is my natural territory, even if I have been visiting side-parted long hair for a few years.

you're lucky you have so much hair -- you could do anything with it. might as well bob for summer!

John Frieda Frizz-Ease stuff.
― ljubljana, Monday, 12 April 2010 03:37 (sixteen years ago)
my hair is opposite of fine so i have no good ideas. but depends on how you want it to look? i know many people with fine hair - some of them use 'beach hair' type products (incl salt in water in spray bottle) and some use anti-frizz and hair dryer.
i haven't had my hair cut in over 3 months. so ridic that a hairdresser friend of mine (not my best-friend hairdresser, who moved awaaaaay) emailed me asking, sweetly, when i'd like to book an appointment. lol, it's time.

cons: v v hard to go back if i change my mind after the fact im older now and darker hair highlights everything wrong with yr skin and theres plenty of that

i think i am growing out bangs.

OMG KISS BLONDE GOODBYE at least for now. Wow!
Still no budget for fancy haircuts, so I'm putting mine up in a cinnamon-roll bun every day. It looks fine, but I'm sick of it. And the more annoyed I get, the shorter it's going to be..........

My hair is finally approaching "normal" length again after my crop last summer. Am sorta tempted to let it keep growing and see what I'd look like with long hair since I haven't had it since . . . high school? I think it would be fun but I doubt I'll have the patience.

but Laurel does it SMELL like cinnamon because that would rule

― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Saturday, 15 May 2010 12:14 (sixteen years ago)
long-locked ladies, how do you prevent damage? i've never had hair this long so i never thought about it, but my hair is looking very sad at the ends now. don't want to cut, tho!
― tehresa, Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:14 (sixteen years ago)
Hmm. I seem to be immune to split ends, but I do get breakage, prob from putting it up so much with pins and elastics. One tip is to put shampoo only on your scalp, not wash the long parts. Then flip upside-down, and start conditioning from the ends, they need it more. Work your way up the hairs but don't condition the roots. Then rinse in cooler water, still leaned over. Pin it up while you wash the rest of you, so you don't get soap on the hair and don't rinse out all the conditioner.
I don't know anything about after-shower products, I don't normally use them. Probably should learn about smoothing serums or whatever.
― wasting time and money trying to change the weather (Laurel), Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:31 (sixteen years ago)
i think the big issue is blow-drying/styling, but i can't not style, because my hair looks HORRIBLE w/out a blow dryer. and if i use shampoo/conditioner that's too moisturizing, i start feeling like my hair is too greasy/flat. sigh.
― tehresa, Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:50 (sixteen years ago)
Ohh, I haven't blow-dried regularly in many many years. About to cut most of hair off, though -- would have gone today but F discouraged me from trying his (cheap) barber -- I would have risked it for a $25 bob versus the $85 it will be elsewhere. Then I will also have styling woes.
― wasting time and money trying to change the weather (Laurel), Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:58 (sixteen years ago)
This haircut is very disappointing.
― tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:37 (sixteen years ago)
I even brought a picture of myself! Next time I am asking for more layers and no blow drying straight.
― tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:38 (sixteen years ago)
Aw. Is it something you can work with? Mine usually gets cut ok but then they spend ages sleeking it down when I just go home and spend ages sticking it out.
― Not the real Village People, Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:19 (sixteen years ago)
I washed it this morning & then styled it the way I usually do, and it's much better. I still think I want it a little more layered though.
― tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 20 May 2010 19:32 (sixteen years ago)
Getting mine cut tomorrow. After having really short hair for the better portion of the last year, I'm sort of digging the length atm. I normally go for my old standby which is an angled bob but am considering growing it a little for the first time since HS. What do you guys think of the pics below? I like both but think I like the one with long bangs best. Any other ideas?

I like the first one! But I loved your hair super short, e!
Btw I finally found a tube of schwarzkopf bonacure sealed ends styling stuff and omg my hair is like 100x happier now :)
― tehresa, Thursday, 5 August 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)
Ah! 1-1.
I guess at this point the question is whether to cut bangs like in the first pic or not because I still have a way to go length wise before anything else becomes an issue. I liked my hair short too T but I'm just more comfortable with it a little longer and the upkeep for really short hair is sort of a pain.
― o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:19 (fifteen years ago)
i like the first one better because it's a little more...stylish? the second one looks like standard working ladycut. it's not bad, nothing wrong with standard professional ladycut, it's just not as interesting.
really though they're not that different.
i need a haircut too and i'm wondering if i should get plugs or a wig or extensions or something because (sob) thinning.
― ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:24 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, that's why I like the first one better too. It just has something that's a little more unique about it.
― o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:27 (fifteen years ago)
I think I'm just going to bring that pic - 1st one to the place and ask the stylist what she thinks. This is in my hometown and I've known her for years and really trust her opinion. If she doesn't think it'll look good, maybe she can suggest something else at least a little interesting.
A, I don't really know much about thinning hair. :/ Don't they make stuff for that though? I think there is medicine you can take specifically for thinning hair in women.
― o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
please tell me the name of this medicine. do not want to use the verb "to bald" in relation to myself.

I have a friend who just recently got hair extensions because her hair is thinning out. Another friend of mine has alopecia and she just started wearing wigs a few weeks ago. Both girls look really great and only people who know them well can recognize they did anything.

So I finally got my hair did. No photos yet cos my blow-drying SUX compared to the salon's. Have determined I need a new blow-dryer with nozzle thingy, and a cooler setting than the one I have now (which is probably 5-8 years old). So I'm taking recommendations, gratefully, for your favorite model!
The salon blow-out was glass-smooth and had no kinks or bends, just a gradual bow all the way to the tips. She used Paul Mitchell's "Super Skinny," which I will try as soon as I have 15 disposable dollars, and a flat paddle brush, which I have, and a nozzle thing on the dryer (see above) which I think funnels the air down to a faster moving column all going in one direction. Is anyone here a blow-drying genius who can elaborate???
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:08 (fifteen years ago)
why does there have to be so much blow drying? i thought your hair was pretty straight?
― ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:11 (fifteen years ago)
I used to understand the whole round-brush-shaping-hair thing but styles have changed to something much straighter and less bouncy than when I last had a short haircut, plus my hair is different now too. HEELLLLP
xp because if it dries naturally I can't sit still like a buddha for the whole time it takes so it gets kinks in it from me absent-mindedly putting it behind one ear or something. And the ends don't all flip the same way.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:13 (fifteen years ago)
huh i don't really have any advice for you, unfortunately.
i guess i have become an absolute sloth when it comes to my hair. it has been 8 mo since i cut it, it's long and stringy and i wear it up every day. someday i will get a haircut, but right now this is working for me. also don't want bangs til sweaty weather is over. i just don't care what it looks like because it always looks like crap. it's kinda sad, really.
― ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:15 (fifteen years ago)
Hey, I hadn't had it cut in 18 months and I haven't dried it in...maybe 2x in the last year. Or something. But I want to be PROFESSIONAL and SLEEK now. Secretly I liked having hair long enough to pile up on top of the head, but it was a casual look and born of laziness mostly. Never really went with my style in other areas.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 14:18 (fifteen years ago)
i have to blowdry mine every day, too, but i'm TERRIBLE at it - and i never bother using a brush. i think the key to perfect blowdrying is basically being willing to spend 30mins max doing it, which i just don't want to do.
i really need a new dryer too - i bought a fantastic remington one just a few months before i left NZ but i couldn't bring it with me. i asked my husband to buy me a replacement for when i got here and he got me this crappy revlon one, which has a 'cool' setting that is really just 'low'.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
All the instructions point to not even STARTING to blow-dry until the hair is 70-80% dry already. Which is ridic, I do not have time in the mornings to sit around drinking tea and smoking cigarettes while my hair air-dries.
But the Super Skinny product is a silicone one that apparently drives water out of the hair faster, which I'm all for. Also thinking of going with this blow-dryer for being fast even at medium heat, and quieter than the competition.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:20 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, i would basically rather deal with kind of shit hair than miss out on an hour of sleeping in every morning.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 15:29 (fifteen years ago)
Laurel, I have the T3 Evolution which is what some salons use and also that haircutting reality show i cant remember the name of now. It was $99 but worth it because of two critical reasons: 1. the heat is constant. A lot of hair dryers have heat bursts that you don't notice but they end up frying your hair. 2. It used to take me 20 minutes to dry my hair (thick!) but now its closer to 7 min and thats from straight out of the shower wet. I think the slower the drying the more the humidity you're creating by turning the water into steam ergo more frizz? Thats my theory anyway. Anyway, Im not sure why its faster because it doesn't seem hotter than any other hairdryer I've used. Maybe its the consistency of the heat. Only downside is if you turn it off halfway through it sometimes doesn't turn on again until it cools down a little. I guess thats a safety feature but its annoying. FWIW it has never stopped while its been on.
― sunny successor, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)
Laurel was it the Super Skinny serum that she used on you? I was surprised to find there was a whole line of SS stuff - shampoo, conditioner, spray etc. I ended up buying the smallest size of the serum to try it out and like it so much I think I'm going to get the big one. It's great!
