Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s is a series of compilations issued by Rhino Records, on both CD and audio cassette, featuring various artists from the New Wave era 1978–1985.

Rhino Records discontinued the series, due to rights issues and with no plans to re-release them. Many of the songs in the series are mastered from the 7" single masters. The series includes some songs making their first CD appearance (in some rare cases, their only CD appearance).

The Depeche Mode song that suggested the title is not included on any of the volumes.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 March 2014 02:34 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's probably just that I don't know many of the titles. I listened to KITS in the early 90s, would probably recognize some of these tunes were i to hear them now

Echo Beach 4eva

that is in the Bay Area right? i use to live in San Francisco itself.

if so then you probably did hear a lot of these as they were sister stations.

M's "Pop Muzik" was like hearing the future when I was 12, it was epochal, couldn't get enough of it at the time. The other contenders are monumental but M came first for me.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 27 March 2014 03:06 (ten years ago) link

yeah, bay area, i want to listen to these comps because i'm sure it'll be a total flashback. Live 105 was pretty awesome before the mid 90s ska/swing shitstorm.

add post-grunge to that. fuck. Well, we can't cling to those old dreams anymore

"What does sex mean to me?" is crazy good & I'd totally forgotten about it.

that's not my post, Thursday, 27 March 2014 04:55 (ten years ago) link

trivia: casey cameron of human sexual response is glasser's mother.

The UK folks are here to say "We know about 50% of these"

Mark G, Thursday, 27 March 2014 05:51 (ten years ago) link

i can say i don't know all of these either. never heard Martha & The Muffins for example.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 March 2014 15:36 (ten years ago) link

Argh shit, this is much harder, and one I'm going to have to seriously think about... could be any one of these:

2. Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick - Ian Dury & The Blockheads
3. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
8. I Don't Like Mondays - The Boomtown Rats
9. I Got You - Split Enz
11. Echo Beach - Martha & The Muffins
12. Whip It - Devo
13. Vienna - Ultravox

'Whip It'. If it had been a different JD song, then probably JD. I still love 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', but not as much as 'Whip It'.

Pop Muzik over Whip It

coops all on coops tbh (crüt), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:02 (ten years ago) link

My heart says Ian Dury so I'm going with that.

I still can't believe "Pop Musik" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It seems so out there and ahead of its time. Does anybody know if the album New York • London • Paris • Munich is worth hearing ?

soref, Thursday, 27 March 2014 18:18 (ten years ago) link

i want to take a break from Steel Dan and maybe listen to this, hope i can find most of this on Spotify.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 March 2014 01:18 (ten years ago) link

Here is where I confess that I've never cared for that Ian Dury track. In fact, just listened to it again now to check and still, nope.

Gonna be a coin toss between Joy Division and Split Enz for me, though the Human Sexual Response track is probably the hidden gem of this mix.

Yeah, I really wish there was a CD reissue of HSR's "In A Roman Mood". Land of the glass pine cones!!

I'm voting "Turning Japanese." I would've voted for "Pop Muzik," but "New York, London, Paris, Munich" is one of the worst setup-a-rhyme lines of all time.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 31 March 2014 01:41 (ten years ago) link

Man I love Vienna (this means nothing to me!) but the idea of voting for anything but BarneyWaves is kinda absurd, so Joy Division.
