MNEK did his own remix of the gorgon city track as well:

Can't wait for the non-stripped down version of "Don't Call This Love".

We have a cut on the @kylieminogue album coming out soon! It's called "Feels So Good" (written by @tom_aspaul). It might be familiar.

Holy shit, he did these when he was 14?

Roz, Saturday, 1 March 2014 06:31 (four years ago) Permalink

his sound cloud is full of refixes of 90s pop songs as bass joints. he has a mash up of JLo's Waiting for Tonight with SFA's Flowers that is heavenly

he's got 11 refixes i think that make a lovely little covers album of their own.

I like the production of the original more. Wish MNEK (or whoever) didn't tinker with it.

I tried to download the file of "Don't Call This Love" he was giving out for free, but it kept giving me some George Michael song.

Greer, Monday, 24 March 2014 17:16 (four years ago) Permalink

The song doesn't sound like George Michael at all (if your post was a joke).

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Monday, 24 March 2014 17:22 (four years ago) Permalink

It was not, I tried three different times and each time it gave me Song To The Siren.

Greer, Monday, 24 March 2014 17:23 (four years ago) Permalink

Holy shit, that is weird.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Monday, 24 March 2014 17:26 (four years ago) Permalink

two weeks pass...

His new single is playing on BBC Radio 1Xtra right now and the host has excitedly restarted the track like three times now, which is way more than the song deserves.

Better than "Every Little Word", but I long for a song like "Wrong A Song…" with the sonic details of "Every Little Word". Maybe that sounds better in theory...

production especially has a lot of things going on w/o feeling overloaded

That Chris Malinchak song is wonderful.

Here's "In Your Clouds":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NGnac16D60

I just streamed his iTunes Festival performance and he played a couple of new songs. A couple of songs he co-wrote with Jimmy Napes, one in particular that was pretty good was "Until The End". He also did the non-stripped-down version of "Don't Call This Love" and it might be the first MNEK production I flat-out dislike. His cover of Lumidee's "Never Leave You" is really fun.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Sunday, 28 September 2014 06:25 (three years ago) Permalink

'wrote a song about you' chorus is probably my biggest earworm of 2014... terrible shame he blew the rest of it

r|t|c, Sunday, 28 September 2014 09:45 (three years ago) Permalink

which is not to say it's necessarily bad how it came out but just that it could genuinely have been a real smash

r|t|c, Sunday, 28 September 2014 09:47 (three years ago) Permalink

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NSr9PZFCYI

the 'ready for your love' follow-up also coulda shoulda have been this rereleased with verses

devolution are generally in the same super-talented (about a billion times more so than gorgon city) can't-quite-catch-that-break boat

r|t|c, Sunday, 28 September 2014 09:55 (three years ago) Permalink

Surprised "Wrote A Song About You" wasn't a bigger hit in the UK. Felt like it was on-trend enough to get radio play and good enough in it's own right to be massive. Also if it had been we'd probably be getting the album sometime this year instead of next like he's been saying recently.

And yeah, if the production that accompanied it at the itunes festival set is the full production, then I agree the stripped down version he did of Don't Call This Love is better. Only thing I prefer in it over the stripped version is the echoing backing vocals.
