ftw indeed

"A Very Cellular Song" has become one of my favourite weird '60s songs the past few years. Actually inherited this album from my parents' pile of records my dad brought home from his milk store (and never ever listened to).

clemenza, Monday, 30 September 2013 16:43 (five years ago) Permalink

dunno, i might vote "nightfall" -- that sitar riff at the end is one of my fave things ever.

tylerw, Monday, 30 September 2013 17:14 (five years ago) Permalink

swift as the wind!

ian, Monday, 30 September 2013 17:20 (five years ago) Permalink

I've played this album to a few folk and they've all seemed to enjoy Witches Hat and Cellular Song most.

Waltz of the New Moon for me

Iago Galdston, Monday, 30 September 2013 17:32 (five years ago) Permalink

The only album with sitar that I can enjoy probably

nostormo, Monday, 30 September 2013 17:44 (five years ago) Permalink

That Live at The Fillmore East recording is pretty cool too, still capturing the band as a 2 piece live. Not heard the officially released cd yet but got it as a torrent a few years ago.

& great to get the 1st 2 2-piece ISB's in the Joe Boyd remaster was great a few years back.

Clive Palmer's C.O.B. are really worth looking into too. Moyshe McStiff has some really haunting stuff on it.

Waltz of the New Moon - great tune, so many hilarious & quotable lines

I have a weak spot for the Minotaur's Song.
I know what's right and what's wrong
(he knows what's right and what's wrong)

Probably be boring and vote "A Very Cellular Song"

i love the ones with no votes....how are the albums before this one?

Iago Galdston, Sunday, 6 October 2013 02:22 (five years ago) Permalink

the one immediately after it, the big huge, is even better imo. "maya" off of it is one of my favourite songs ever, such a slow burn. it's part of a double lp but for some reason the copy of mine is separate from wee tam, the other lp

flopson, Sunday, 6 October 2013 03:01 (five years ago) Permalink

Wee Tam is my favorite. 'Ducks on a Pond' surpasses Cellular as their greatest epic IMO.

Lovely JEsus nailed to a TREE-EE-E-EEEEEE

HIGHLY recommend watching "Be Glad for the Song Has No Ending". Lots of Wee Tam on that.

two years pass...

this is cool! www.nts.live/shows/timeisaway/episodes/time-is-away-a-very-cellular-song-18th-april-2016

"This month’s programme is an exploded view of one of our favourite pieces of music, The Incredible String Band’s ‘A Very Cellular Song’. The track, from the band’s 1968 masterpiece The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter, is the loose inspiration for an hour of amoebas, early music and the mid-century Edinburgh literary avant-garde. With contributions from the ISB, David Attenborough, David Monrow and the Pinder Family."

Almost never had such a viscerally negative reaction to an album as this, to the extent that it's kind of interesting

imago, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:13 (eight months ago) Permalink

definitely one of the best albums

tylerw, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:16 (eight months ago) Permalink

It just creeped me the fuck out, and not in a cool way like Comus

imago, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:20 (eight months ago) Permalink

slithering and squelching on

JoeStork, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:44 (eight months ago) Permalink

I've just recently re-immersed myself in all things ISB and, well, love them love them love them. There's a lovely live version of "Cellular" by Mike Heron and his band on Youtube. 2013, I think. Don't have the link handy but worth searching for. Anyhow - bless these folks.

LJ, you disappoint me.

Video reach stereo bog (Tom D.), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:53 (eight months ago) Permalink

It wasn't necessarily that I thought it was bad music. It was an almost irrational reaction, like I was in the presence of evil

imago, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:55 (eight months ago) Permalink

LOL, evil not normally a word associated with ISB.

Video reach stereo bog (Tom D.), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:59 (eight months ago) Permalink

You probably shouldn’t hear the Scientology albums then

that is some proper mind-into-mush prion activation shit right there

the vibe I get from this lot is that of seemingly kindly and eccentric hippies who drug and kidnap women and force them to sing

imago, Monday, 12 February 2018 18:14 (eight months ago) Permalink

among other things

the male energy is gross with this lot, I'm sorry. darkest hippie music

"A Very Cellular Song" for me (don't know if I voted in this or not), but Williamson's childhood song second for sure. That is one amazing song.

timellison, Monday, 12 February 2018 18:21 (eight months ago) Permalink

I never knew this album actually made it all the way to number five on the British album chart. And was nominated for a Grammy!

timellison, Monday, 12 February 2018 18:48 (eight months ago) Permalink

yeah, it's funny to realize how popular they were for a minute there!

ISB can definitely be annoying but I don't get a gross/hostile male vibe at all and if there were one, I have faith that I would feel it
