band released my favorite abum of last year and are releasing a new one in november called surfing strange

here's the first song they've released from it, "watered down": https://soundcloud.com/enablerpr/swearin-watered-down

i've heard the whole thing and it's great, sort of a mid-'90s-ish alt rock record that explores every weird tangent in the band's capacity.

also i can't even begin to talk about how essential their first album is

Oh man this third track 'mermaid' is kinda heavy like.

These are kids who rode around in the car with their parents blasting Fastbacks from the tape deck in the 90s, right? I'm trying to figure out the genesis of the 90s indie/lo-fi revival, but a) it's hard to pinpoint and b) it makes me feel crazy old.

dunno if it's necessarily down to parents. I think every 20 years things come back in style. just from younger people searching stuff out.

Yeah, this new album really great. I loved the first one so much that I figured that the new one would pale in comparison...and it does, but just a little.

It seems to tread the same ground but I have no problem with that.

This is easily at the top of the '90s indie revival heap. Really good album (big leap above the last one, too, which was good but samey).

i love this band bc its two principal songwriters are both really strong but kyle's songwriting upgraded significantly on this record

How unexpected - thanks for the alert! I assumed they'd broken up. The above track is promising. I wish all garage rock sounded more like this.

they did break up! and then they got back together!

I have an album from 2012 where I kept two songs on my hard drive ("Kenosha" and "Empty Head").

clemenza, Sunday, 9 September 2018 19:40 (three months ago) Permalink

kenosha is a perfect song

If this also happens with Chumped and Trust Fund then it will be a sign that the world is getting better again.

Loved all of the Swearin' preview singles.

I love every second of this album omg. They totally nail that sour-happiness sound that makes listening painfully enjoyable. Stabilize is my current favourite - that break nearly kills me.
