Fuck voting for a hat

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Friday, 7 June 2013 14:20 (ten years ago) link

No but I think there are enough people who would vote based on just thinking Neil Young is cooler than Eric Clapton to sway the poll.

oh god, not the integrity of the old sock vs. fork in the road poll

Old Sock is not a bad album!

The late 80s/early 90s AOR chart polls have convinced to explore Clapton's discography in greater depth!

Had a dream about this very thread just last night! I was visiting my sister and Clapton was in the kitchen for some reason, talking on the phone and looking like he looked in the '70s. Meanwhile I was amusing myself by playing the special 4CD expanded version of Zappa's "Freak Out!" in four different players at once so it just sounded like a lot of garbled noise. My brother-in-law came in and asked "What the hell are you listening to?" just as Clapton ended his call and joined us. I pointed to him and said "He's on this record!" (even tho it's actually a different Zappa album I was thinking of) and he said "That's 'Freak Out'!" and laughed and did the "It's God! I See God!" just like he actually does on "We're Only In It For The Money". Then it occurred to me that as long as Clapton was there, I might as well ask him a question about Neil Young just so I could post his reply on this thread (seemed like a good idea) so I addressed him, but for some reason I started stuttering and mumbling and couldn't get the words out. Finally I managed "What do you think of Neil Young?" and he gave a noncommittal "oh, he's all right, y'know". I realized that with all my stuttering I'd come off as some kind of fawning fanboy and that he was giving me a really patronizing answer just to shut me up. I was pissed off but said no more. The end.

two weeks pass...

...and now I have a Neil Young dream to contribute! I dreamed I was at his house with my niece - she was attending some kind of children's party for his young kids. He entered the house dressed in a pinstripe suit and running shoes, complaining about his commute home from the office: "That drive, that drive..." I was aware that he'd taken a position in the A&R dept of some record company and asked him "How do you like your new job?" He grinned and nodded a few times and said, "My focus is on the mind," then turned away. I pondered his answer for a few seconds, then his wife took me aside and advised me not to pay him any mind - he didn't understand my question, and in fact was almost totally deaf.

Old Buck

Master of Treacle, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 00:31 (ten years ago) link

is it more or less punk rock than 'monster'

mookieproof, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 00:32 (ten years ago) link

I think Peter Buck was on record saying that if it was up to him
REM albums wouldnt even have any artwork, just white space, and something to distinguish it from the last album, as if he was talking about Chicago albums or whatever

Although maybe the White Album has kind of ruined that for everyone else

Master of Treacle, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 00:38 (ten years ago) link

I get that, REM album covers were pretty consistently bad, imo.

that is a pretty good one, but the dgaf ante would be upped if he wasn't looking so dapper. break out the hawaiian shirt, cohen!

tylerw, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 17:51 (nine years ago) link

That'd be a major uphill battle against Jimmy Buffett, the John Coltrane of dgaf Hawaiian shirt album covers.
