This is the thread where we never listen to Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons = The Lumineers + Maroon 5

Maybe this should be a rolling thread where each week we pick somebody new to not listen to. Because what shows our shared love of music more than self-righteous ignorance of anything that gets popular or unselfconscious, right?

new single?

life went on, sadly (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 01:30 (eleven years ago) link

so imagine dragons are not a soaring, vaguely christian power metal band with sideways haircuts? i am hugely disappointed in this thread.

I dunno, I've never heard them.

me neither. the dream is alive.

I refuse to consider listening to a band with this shit a name. Unless, as Contenderizer says, they were power metal.

"The group's name is an anagram, with the original words known only to the members of the band."

Intrigue!

Also… Mormons!

The wiki used to say what the mystery name was and it's, no kidding, Gonad Migraines

some dude, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

I would be happy to contribute to them feeling that, on a regular basis.

maura, Thursday, 18 April 2013 17:48 (ten years ago) link

I haven't listened to Imagine Dragons or the Lumineers or Mumford and Sons or Philip Philips or whatever. I feel very blissful in my ignorance.

or songs from the dragon's point of view about how girls always end up going out with asshole knights who treat them badly

Ive heard Radioactive. With the grohl sounding 'ready to rock you' chorus, they sound like a foo fighters tribute. Listening on the radio without paying too much attention at first, i thought this was the Foo Fighters's latest single. lol. Im betting they are big fans of grohl. Not that he's had much amazing input since his debut. The FF are too commercialized now, and im sure this band will be too. Not that the band will mind. Radioactive is a pretty good track but nothing that original or inspirational. In a cowell led music industry thats spitting out more generic rubbish now than ever, thats nothing to be shocked about XD

Right now it's on track to go past number one, which would be the first time in history a song has done that.

looks like somebody decided we need a new nickelback

my girlfriend sometimes trolls me by sending me links to youtubes of really popular songs that I (a) have never heard and (b) she knows i will hate. she hasn't gotten around to this band but has trolled me with old crow medicine show, mumford & sons, and that anna kendrick thing among others. of all of the youtubes she's sent me the only one I could listen to all the way through was the OCMS one which I felt was mostly terrible but not offensively so. however if i had heard it every day for a few years I'd probably feel differently. anyway.

my wife tried to convince me that the giant drum they play in live performances of "Radioactive" is on the studio version and i was just like 'no, that's the wub wub dubstep drum loop that's on a million other songs'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9IvyhYpKMg

creepy-looking Imagine Dragons frontman reminds me a little of creepy-looking Arcade Fire frontman. also lol mullet.

some dude, Saturday, 24 August 2013 15:51 (ten years ago) link

i still really like their first single "It's Time," though, that's one good-ass generic movie trailer-sounding song.

some dude, Saturday, 24 August 2013 15:52 (ten years ago) link

I still have never listened to Imagine Dragons, but I wonder if anyone has made a fan vid with scenes of Daenerys Targaryen.

that anna kendrick thing

she sang a song in the movie Pitch Perfect that gradually climbed into the top 10 of the pop charts nearly a year after the movie came out.

some dude, Saturday, 24 August 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link

Oooooh I'm gonna listen to that later, when everything seems to be going my way

Imagined Rayguns (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 24 August 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link

The Kendrick song also has like a 2-minute steadicam shot in the video (for people who care about stuff like that).

A Made Man In The Mellow Mafia (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 24 August 2013 16:37 (ten years ago) link

check out the 77-second version from the soundtrack that originally went viral, the dressed-up re-recording they play on pop radio now is not nearly as good (xp)

some dude, Saturday, 24 August 2013 16:38 (ten years ago) link

it's an old country song that went semi-viral when some anonymous youtubers combined it with the cup dance (2009), culminating in the Pitch Perfect scene (2012), Anna Kendrick's hit (2013), and thousands of youtube covers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0yWlRTdF7I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0yWlRTdF7I

its sort of impressive the way they manage to incorporate every single terrible pop rock trend from this decade - mumford-esque twee folk pop, really clunky dubstep integration, terrible sing-rapping, etc

and they're from Vegas!

The one good thing I will say about Imagine Dragons is that the lead singer has been an activist for LGBTQ youth within the Mormon church.
