What songs remind you of home? Wherever that may be.

I'll start it off with "Kiss the Land" by The Super Friendz

Reminds me of the nearest 'city' to where I grew up.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Details of the War

Bloody sheets
Tenderly she moves me
An opera star
Dying hard for love
You say I'm hurt
I will take your word

Leather pants
A hundred dollars
Buy success
Hanging with your fashionable whores
And I'm a wounded bird
I will take your word

You and tom (you and tom)
To the prom (to the prom)
Camel dick (camel dick)
Crucifix (crucifix)
Everyone's the same and on and on
Emerging from the football stands
Clinging to his broken hand
It's over I have seen it all before

Nakedness (nakedness)
A flying lesson
Tattered dress
Sunburned chest
You will pay for your excessive charm
With a boy who knows
Less than he thinks
Drinks up his expensive drinks
Be careful with the DETAILS OF THE WAR

playing on the loudspeaker, summers at the local pool =
australian crawl: oh no not you again

every teenage cover band in my hometown played a version of this =
dragon: april sun in cuba

on every roadtrip mixtape we made in college
cruel sea: this is not the way home

songs that I didn't actually like when I lived in Oz (chisel I fucking HATED) that now make me weep from nostalgia:

Cattle and cane, go betweens

flame trees, cold chisel

I have vivid memories of my dad singing along to "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band when I was a kid.

Hitchin is a reggae town, or used to be.

I can't think of any songs that would actually remind me of Worcester itself (maybe This Place Sucks by the Queers lolwtf) but early Madness and Altered Images have very strong links in my head to being a kid there even though the songs themselves don't have anything to do with the place. Er, relevant post there.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 16 February 2013 01:04 (six years ago) link

Hey Colonel Poo, don't restrict yourself too much. The song/band doesn't directly have to say or be about your city, it can simply be a song that you listened to a lot whilst there or somehow it now reminds you of home.

To everyone: Thanks, guys! At the risk of sounding too sentimental or wearing my heart on my sleeve, this has helped me feel not so alone because I am away from the place I call home. It just so happens I actually want to go back.

Strangely enough, when I was going to move down here (a huge, major American city), everyone was asking me why I would ever want to move down here. I don't exactly hail from a small town (it's one of 3 major Canadian cities).

But I drive to work everyday here and sometimes pop in Neil Young's Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and it feels like one of those songs that was written just for you, because many of the little details align with my own life and circumstance. If I've deduced the details correctly (and someone correct me if I am wrong), Neil Young wrote this tune while living in Los Angeles, and even though home isn't a small town, it is still very different from LA and not so crazy.
