Enthusiasm: Average points per ballot
Diversity: Average degree of overlap among people who voted for the album. If this was the only album that any of its voters shared, diversity will be 1.
Popularity: The Spotify Popularity score for the album, if it's on Spotify. No idea how they calculate it.

I've kept all your favourite voter stats with ridiculous names from previous years and added some new ones:

Hivemind score: this is the average points total for the albums on your ballot; how your ballot was ordered doesn't change the score.
Fuxxor Quotient: the proportion of albums on your ballot that were in Pitchfork's top 50
Antifuxxor Ratio = Hivemind divided by Fuxxor Quotient. A high ratio means your taste is much closer to that of ILM than to that of Pitchfork.
Populism: the average Spotify popularity of the albums on your ballot that are also on Spotify.
Loneliness: the proportion of your albums that nobody else voted for.
Blood Sausage Index: The average points total for albums that didn't appear on the Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Spin, Quietus, Wire, Decibel, FACT or Pazz and Jop Top 100 lists. Essentially, whether you love songs that nobody outside of ILM cares or knows about.
Top neighbour: essentially the voter whose ballot intersects most with yours.

I should have written an explanation of the graph at the top of the thread...it's a plot of all the similarities between voters collapsed into two dimensions through PCA. On average, people with similar ballots will appear close to each other in the plot but the method doesn't work all the time and seems to have a particular aversion to Tim F.

Kind've thrown together compared to my tracks ballot (forgot a bunch've obvious stuff like the Cherry Thing, Aluk Todolo, Carter Tutti Void etc), but fairly happy with how it looks in hindsight. Was really hoping the Cataracs would place somewhere on the first day - they're way too crass/nihilistic to achieve a huge amount of consensus, but the production is amazing and the evocation of a post-Ke$ha/LMFAO apocalyptic L.A. party-trash hedonism is kinda mindblowing.

My understanding is the axes aren't particularly meaningful - its a two-dimensional projection (or shadow) of neighbors of seen in a very high-dimensional space (a 132x132 similarities matrix).

i should have put more thought into my ballot :(

As I said on another thread, what I really wanted to do was a mixed ballot in which the albums in the top tier would be worth more than the albums in the bottom tier (as this system allows), but within each tier (i.e., not just the bottom one) the albums would be equally weighted. My point is that I didn't care too strongly about the order of my #1-10, but I knew I wanted them to count more than my #11-25.

If you only had three similarities (say the distances between three ballots), you could represent them in three dimensions by objects hanging in space. The projection on the floor/wall whatever would depend a lot on where the light source is, and could show neighbors where they're originally far apart. Now just increase the analogy to 132 dimensions, and hope PCA picks the least distorting angle of illumination.

A bit about the albums I chose that didn't place:

Eyvind Kang - The Narrow Garden
This immediately knocked Swans off my number 2 spot. It's simply gorgeous - a blend of classical, ambient, psych and world music with incredible vocals courtesy of Kang's wife Jessika Kenney. Totally fantastical, epic and alluring.

Young Smoke - Space Zone
The most accessible (would love to call it a crossover) footwork album so far. Fans of everything from Daft Punk to that Lone album should check. More thoughts here

DJ Rashad - Teklife vol 1 Welcome to the Chi
A more traditional-sounding footwork album, but nevertheless envelope-pushing. Dance music in a pressure cooker in some sort of laboratory or something.

David Byrne & St. Vincent - Love This Giant
Two of my favourite musicians collaborate on a unique, horn-driven record that spans everything from jazz, hip-hop and marching band music. Took me a while to get into, but now I love pretty much every cut.

Black Dice - Mr Impossible
Hardcore band turn noise terrorists turn bass-driven techno animals. Thoughts here.

Motorpsycho & Ståle Storløkken - The Death Defying Unicorn
Completely overblown, ridiculously ambitious Scandinavian prog.

Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
Bluesy rock for the Jools Holland set, maybe, but the performances and songs on here really stand out from the crowd.

Om - Advaitic Songs
I should have voted this higher. This is atmospheric doom metal, but really it's barely even metal any more, just slowly unfurling psych-rock with Middle Eastern influences all over it. Great for spacing out/zoning in to.

LHF - Keepers Of The Light
I thought this would place higher. This is a really far out post-dubstep double album made by a shady clan of producers. It's a really surprising collection, loads of disparate samples, really cleverly interwoven. A real enigma.

Holly Herndon - Movement
Somewhere between Villalobian house, Laurel Halo-esque drapery and Laurie Anderson sound-art. Some tracks are danceable, others are strange voice sketches and experiments. A really odd record, not for everyone, but I like it.

Slugabed - Time Team
I just find this guy's production really satisfying. He's got this Aphex Twin-style knack for twisty melodies and interesting beats.

Mala - Mala in Cuba
A flawed album, with a few redeeming moments. More thoughts here

the EL album is great! a ton of good songs on there, remarkably consistent for a double-album I thought. Whenever people diss Nicki Minaj for trying to do too much, I think of EL (or most major Jamaican artists for that matter) and wonder why that would be a complaint.

There weren't a ton of surprises in the poll for me, but so far my big discoveries are this quite lovely Manuel Tur album I'm listening to right now, and Lindstrom's Where You Go, which I'd never checked out before having assumed all his stuff was like Real Life Is No Cool (which I liked but don't love).
