maybe one or two maximalist rockist new answers by tomorrow?

I quite like the one Laddio Bolocko album someone gave me. It's some of the best intrumental rock-guh I have heard. Completely captivating. God knows what they are doing now. WIth the amounts of pot they probably consume, I assume they probably have difficulty holding down jobs, their short term memories completely fried.

I got to see them live once.. touring with Trans Am and Neil Hamburger, I think. They looked like a gang of street tough Venetian waiters making this rather unpleasant but very well played out noise rock stuff.

i like "strange warmings" a hell of a lot. "in real time" was cool, but kind of unexpected (like that golden 12" that was almost afrobeat). mysterious group, i know nothing about them (although i haven't googled them recently).

I saw the same tour db did. I remember liking the skronk and the eyeliner.

Some of the members--the drummer and maybe the saxophone player?--are in a new band called >something< Turn To Me. I wish I could remember, but I'm blanking on it right now.

Also, the latest Aquarius records update says that the Laddio Bolocko LPs are going to be re-released this month, along with a double CD which may have the LPs or may have the final, unreleased album (well, one can hope...).

I saw these guys play in Detroit a few years back, damn fine show! Their drummer is a madman.

I liked the sound clip I heard on the Aquarius site, but
for more info on the retrospective . . .

From www.noquarter.net

"coming November 5th, 2002:
nq002 Laddio Bolocko "The Life and Times of Laddio Bolocko" 2xCD
Retrospective of this truly amazing Brooklyn band. Angular, chaotic
instrumental rock. You can't descibe in words how intense this is... and fantastic artwork by out friend Paul Romano. Think
Can, This Heat, Jesus Lizard. Also we will have limited vinyl releases of "Strange Warmings of..." and "As If By Remote".
Sax player Marcus said about their music: "Our music is about pushing the bounds of texture and form. We play higher, faster, and louder to feed our need to push ourselves physically and emotionally through music. It is an attempt to reinvent the roles of our instruments. Doing what no other saxophone, guitar, bass and drum group is doing today or ever. On the best nights we are a machine that moves as one, which is what all the most memorable bands have been about.""

Tom, THANK YOU for that wunderbar info. Between that & the Lifter Puller collection, I am in compilation heaven.

I take offense at the question being phrased in the past-tense, though.

did anyone come accross this in their google search?
http://www.etherdrag.com/krakatoa/laddio.html

if you don't want to read the whole thing, here's the best part:
I like to smoke pot. Yesterday I was at an outdoor barbecue with a bunch of close friends. The weather was as close to perfect as I can imagine, and someone had a joint. We smoked it, and it felt good.

But sometimes a regular joint just isn’t enough for me, and on these occasions I like to concoct something I call the “Heart of Darkness”. To make the “Heart of Darkness”, I take a small sheet of blotter acid, about 40 hits total, and I use it as a ro lling paper for some really strong grass (Dutch 4-way or Northern Lights usually). I try to mix some chunks of blond hash and at least one or two psilocybin caps in with the pot. Once I get it all rolled up, I turn off all the lights in my apartment, loc k the door, change into flip-flops, and light it up.

Between hits I brush my teeth with “Toms of Maine” ginger mint toothpaste. After three or four deep inhalations, I make an espresso (no sugar, twist of lemon) and then I sit in my room experiencing a feeling for which words fail. It is a non-verbal experience. Picking out a CD in this state is next to impossible, so I make sure to load up my six disc changer beforehand with the perfect musical accompaniment. I usually chose some combination of the following: Cheer Accident, The Ruins, The Free D esign, The Carpenters, Miles Davis, and Laddio Bolocko.

The new band is called Electric Turn to Me. Saw their first show in October. Blake (drummer) and [guy who's name I forget] (keyboards, soon to play sax according to Blake) from Laddio Bolocko, plus a male guitarist and a female singer/guitarist. I likes 'em.

OMG, gygax! I got Strange Warminngs of... from a friend in the mail today, and I'm listening to it at work, and wow! This is really quite good. The cover looks so familiar, I must've come across it years ago and had no idea...

Joel--

Yeah, that comp is pretty great. Have you seen Electric Turn to Me since that show? I was a bit disappointed with them in comparison to Laddio Bolocko, but want to give them another chance--especially if that guy has started playing sax again...!

blake was/is a phenomenal drummer. I saw those guys like 4 times, bootlegged one show, it's pretty awesome.

so the Electric Turn to Me album is out and there are clips at Aquarius. i'm not too sure i'm sold. maybe if i listen to them w/o the context of them being former Laddio members, I'd get something else out of it, but it just sounds like the Faint fronted by a girl.

It kind of reminds me of Siouxsie and the Banshees meets the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Doesn't seem to have much in common with Laddio Bolocko.

i have a question:

who in Electric Turn To Me was connected to the mars volta?

there's a couple blurbs floating around the net claiming this but i really can't imagine any legitimate connection.

I was unaware of this band until last week. A friend let me borrow the 2CD compilation, which was surprisingly great. The first few songs off of Strange Warmings really whet my whistle, and the final song, "Y Toros" was humming along nicely until my girlfriend demanded I turn it off around the 20 minute mark.

How are the related bands? The reaction to Electric Turn to Me above seems mixed at best. What about The Psychic Paramount, which Wikipedia says includes the bassist and guitar player from Laddio Bolocko? Any good?

The Psychic Paramount are awesome and I recommend them highly. I loved Laddio Bolocko(I have the same comp you have as the originals i could never track down tho I think I did get one cd cheap eventually) .

One quick question for those in the know:

On the second CD of the compilation, where do the tracks from In Real Time end and where does As If By Remote start?

The packaging doesn't make a clear distinction, and I've had no luck on Google either.
