there's been some speculation that he was working with beyonce on her album so this may be that, but just in case he's rolling out an album...

it's funny, just when it feels like people FINALLY stopped begging dude for an album for a few months.

this will prob sound like everything else Justin and Tim have done together over the past 10 years, 90% chance people will still like that and 50% change it will actually be good

looking forward to this, change is overrated

a track that leaked a few years ago w/ t.i. produced by tim. it was a rumored comeback single but just an old track that never made it anywhere. one of my fav timberlake songs tho.

"if i" isn't a bad song but it's completely torpedoed from the off with that totally gross and unsexy opening line he sounds so proud of

Also, a youtube video today which says basically nothing. The countdown clock expires on Monday, though, which is the day that was originally the central piece of the rumor. New track then, hopefully.

JT 2013: second-rate Robin Thicke

lol at ship rushing out the gate to shit in everyone's cornflakes as per usual.

this is a dope robin thicke song. would be better without jay's part killing the momentum tho.

The Reverend, Monday, 14 January 2013 04:53 (seven years ago) link

i dont like the intro.

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 04:56 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I think I'd like this 200% more w/o any Jay-Z.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 January 2013 04:57 (seven years ago) link

it goes on for like 3 minutes before he makes a sound, not hard to imagine what it would sound like without him

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 05:01 (seven years ago) link

True, but Rev is right that it kills momentum. I'd go one step further and say that Jay's part retroactively kills momentum (that didn't even begin until the intro was over). Structurally, it's a mess.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 January 2013 05:08 (seven years ago) link

it could be tighter for sure but it's totally enjoyable

The Reverend, Monday, 14 January 2013 05:09 (seven years ago) link

wow that intro really is grim

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2013 05:15 (seven years ago) link

Chief Duff (Eazy), Monday, 14 January 2013 05:23 (seven years ago) link

idk this feels album track-y but not bad

rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 14 January 2013 05:25 (seven years ago) link

yeah it could easily be the weakest track on a good album. wouldn't be the first time that was true of a big event lead single.

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 05:28 (seven years ago) link

Strange intro. Chintzy's a good word for the main section of the track, although that glissando is nice. I don't think it's Jay that's killing the momentum. It's the change-up in the tempo and in the production. But I do like how it picks back up at the end. Interesting to hear whether the rest of the production on this album follows similar form.

underwhelming :\

teledyldonix, Monday, 14 January 2013 05:30 (seven years ago) link

First the Bowie single, and now this...Chopped 'n' screwed tempo big in '13.

Chief Duff (Eazy), Monday, 14 January 2013 05:36 (seven years ago) link

Werkin' Girls does it too, with better results. Trend probably comes from those who started slowing down their tracks to ~75bpm for the obligatory dubstep section.

"Not A Bad Thing" is a decent choice for the next single, sounded good on Fallon the other night. Pretty impossible to rehabilitate the album's rep after the first two singles, though.

Heard "Pusher Love Girl" this morning, still great, only song from these records I care about ever hearing again.

Spottie, Monday, 24 February 2014 14:58 (six years ago) link

the new single gives off horrific "this is almost destined to be No. 1" vibes

katherine, Monday, 24 February 2014 15:06 (six years ago) link

This time 'round I wouldn't mind if it went #1. He's soppier than he pretends and is decent at it.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:07 (six years ago) link

The recent albums gave off such a bad whiff of stink that despite loving his first two records I've listened to 20/20 all the way through maybe once and the second one never. And it really irks me that the only two JT songs I hear on the radio with any regularity is "What Goes Around ..." and "Mirror." It's almost as if they're afraid to play "Cry Me A River" or "Like I Love You" for fear that people would rather hear them.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2014 15:11 (six years ago) link

"TKO" is without a doubt his worst ever single right? i mean, even worse than the one that literally got turned into a mcdonalds jingle

"not a bad thing" sounded good on fallon

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:13 (six years ago) link

MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:14 (six years ago) link

"Mirrors" might not be his worst single, but it's his worst HIT single, at any rate.

Not A Bad Thing sounds like the second single (after a Max Martin jam) on an *NSYNC reunion album named All Grown Up. So yeah it's the best single he's had in a while.

da croupier, Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:12 (six years ago) link

yeah it really is the mildest thing he's made since N Sync, isn't it. it came as a relief after "TKO," but the more i hear it, the less i like it. the staged viral campaign w/ the couple getting engaged while the song is playing is so so lame, too.

some dude, Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:55 (six years ago) link

don't know how I feel about the chorus' false humility either; coming from a dude with Justin's wealth he sings it like a threat.

So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me
Cause you might fuck around and find your dreams come true with me
Spend all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me

i looked up the chorus cuz I find the opening "with me/with me" rhyme really insipid and grating, and it turns out he threw a "fuck" in there too that i was unaware of.

between this and jessica biel producing a TV pilot about a bachelor living the high life in NYC who has a sudden change of heart after babysitting his nephew.
