My bad, both examples you cited are dope. This thread title just made me think of Benoit & Sergio/Art Department/whoever and they can suck my nuts.

The Reverend, Monday, 19 March 2012 02:27 (twelve years ago) link

haha yeah, please don't post trendy druggy house. thanks.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 19 March 2012 02:29 (twelve years ago) link

Whenever I hear ""I Can't Kick This Feelin' When It Hits" played out it sounds pretty amazing in exactly this way, though it also sounds more upbeat than I would have expected from home listening.

Can't see what your second example is, but leaving aside Moodymann/Theo Parrish stuff the following immediately spring to mind as fitting yr description (albeit in different ways):

Marshall Jefferson vs Noosa Heads - Mushrooms (Salt City Orchestra Remix)

Jonny L - This Time (Carl Craig Remix) ("there's no need to climb the mountain high-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh...")

Steve Barnes - Cosmic Sandwich

Problem Kids - I Will Lead (Hollway & Eastwick Remix)

Also, it may seem like an odd link to draw but I reckon that a lot of Basement Jaxx's late 90s loop-to-infinity harder tracks ("Same Old Show", "All You Crazies" etc.) fit this mould too, though in a more thuggish, less "deep" manner.

Tim F, Monday, 19 March 2012 03:05 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks. Can you tell me Theo's tracks that sound like this? I only know "Falling Up." That's a jam.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 19 March 2012 03:44 (twelve years ago) link

Haha lots and lots! To simpify hugely, Theo's watching brief is basically "stoner Moodymann".

It ranges all over the places but you need to hear the Parallel Dimensions first and foremost.

Tim F, Monday, 19 March 2012 04:07 (twelve years ago) link

Here's an example of appropriate Theo, Durr - "Took Me All The Way Back", an early classic:

Marshall Jefferson vs Noosa Heads - Mushrooms (Salt City Orchestra Remix)

This is the first tune I thought of, you can feel the humidity rising when you listen to it. Pretty much the only time I smoke weed now is in the summer if I'm in the park with friends who have some, and this is the tune I'd want to hear.

i don't think of any of this as stoner house and would like it not to be tainted by being classed as such

Cos yes, no house producers have ever smoked weed.

trippy music is amazing, it isn't house (and isn't on youtube) but the lesser spotted eight miles high dub version of "lovelee dae" by blaze is pretty much the greatest weed tune ever. try not feeling stoned listening to this on a massive system: http://open.spotify.com/track/21KTtXstxCV8Rywsvelmrv

Madison, there are nights here occasionally but nothing like the Twin Cities or Chi.

I used to go Foundation in the Cities, you know DVS1's old club?

I got spoiled rotten: saw Mr Parrish, Derrick May, Jesse Saunders, a lot of different guys. There's nothing like that here.

there's this thing, that people do, where they identify a vibe they like in particular tracks, and ask for recommendations of other tracks with a similar vibe.

pattern loader, that gemini track is very nice. but it seems hard to find. maybe you could.. you know..

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 11:28 (twelve years ago) link

Well the thread description is a very big set of sounds, since virtually every deep house producer in the last ten years has been influenced by Moodymann and Theo Parrish.

And virtually every house single since the late 80s has had at least one slightly druggy cut, or it least it seem like it.

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:10 (twelve years ago) link

I think it's a matter of perception. One druggy track for some can sound normal for others.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:13 (twelve years ago) link

I've had a fever for about 4 or 5 days so just about everything sounds a little off at the moment, maybe its the cold medicine.

Virtual Bart (EDB), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:31 (twelve years ago) link

maybe this image would help you: low ceiling basement, smokes lingering, minimal lighting, sparse dancefloor with people dancing like zombies, DJ playing slow house with some sinister, sleazy quality to it. tracks that float, hypnotic, repetitive, but really groovy.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 11:18 (twelve years ago) link

not really "druggy" but it fits the floaty, repetitive, groovy criteria.
