chuck you should have voted but I thought you had given up on us as you didn't vote last year or the year before iirc?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 23 January 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

did any of your reviews for the Cauldron album mention 'tears of cum'?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 23 January 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

*barf*

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 19:38 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't give up on the poll; I gave up on metal! But this year I changed my mind back I guess. And I'm not blaming you for me not voting; I had my chance. Anyway, nah, I don't think I mentioned that lyric, though I agree that's what it sounds like he's saying. Totally catchy song, either way.

xhuxk, Monday, 23 January 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

Actually in that Rhapsody review I call it "a dirty song about a tragic Canadian Playboy bunny" (it's "dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Stratten" in the liner notes), so I guess I wanted to hint at the actual words without giving them away.

xhuxk, Monday, 23 January 2012 19:56 (twelve years ago) link

I don't think it's intentional, but it totally sounds like that. I wonder if they even noticed it before others pointed it out?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 00:36 (twelve years ago) link

I've been assuming it was intentional! But of course there's no way to know for sure.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 01:47 (twelve years ago) link

theres a lot to enjoy. you going to catch up on metal in 2011 and keep up with 2012 dog latin?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

Nice list Chuck. So after reading the poll results, might there be anything else that would have made your list?

Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 05:05 (twelve years ago) link

Give him a chance to listen!

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:26 (twelve years ago) link

Curious about Uncle Acid, Devil's Blood, maybe a few others. (Haven't really studied the whole list.) But those two aren't on Rhapsody, and I'm cheap, and I don't download unless somebody is paying me to write about something. So who knows when I'll hear them. If they show up in dollar CD bins 20 years from now, though, I'm there.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:15 (twelve years ago) link

The Devil's Blood is getting released today in North America. Might show up for you soon.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:17 (twelve years ago) link

Label sent me a download. As usual, haven't gotten around to it. Fwiw, lots of other albums on the list (many of which I wrote about, mainly for Rhapsody) struck me as somewhere between mediocre to boring to unlistenable. But tastes obviously vary.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not supposed to stream at work so I don't bother with those services, but isn't Spotify supposed to have a lot more music than Rhapsody?

Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

But Spotify doesn't employ him.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

best bet for Uncle Acid would be seeking out the Youtubes...there are a few in the thread here Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Blood Lust (One of the best rock albums this year)

I feel like you might not hate it, esp if you dug this year's Blood Ceremony

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:42 (twelve years ago) link

Well then Rhapsody should get in gear and stream more albums for their star employee!

Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:45 (twelve years ago) link

Independent contractor, actually -- but point well taken.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:49 (twelve years ago) link

Got 2 cds in mail today Condenados - A Painful Journey Into Nihil and Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 27 January 2012 14:02 (twelve years ago) link

I bought In Solitude and Devil's Blood CDs at Reckless. Also picked up Ghost finally. I thought I'd get one at the show but they had sold out, but Reckless has 'em. My Uncle Acid CD finally arrived. I'm also really liking Altar Of Plagues and especially Thy Catafalque. How are their older albums?

Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 29 January 2012 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

Pitom album sounded immense on my headphones at 2am this morning whilst I was at work.

pandemic, Sunday, 29 January 2012 16:22 (twelve years ago) link

FnB All good choices! My Catalfaque cd came but as i had never heard of them until the votes came in for them i have no idea about their older stuff, i think Glenn says its good but Siegbran says they never used to be but hadnt heard the last few before this one(which he liked)

so fuck knows. I dont even have them on mp3.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Sunday, 29 January 2012 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Argus cd arrived today

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

I assume it boldly strode in.

Hey Kerr what albums from the countdown do you think will show up this week? I def think Yob and Uncle Acid have good shots...

non, je ned raggette rien (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 30 January 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

uncle acid and maybe mastodon. those 2 have non-metal crossover potential i think.(did many metal thread regs vote? im guessing not enough) Dont think yob made it last time.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 16:15 (twelve years ago) link

and liturgy!

lol (it just placed)

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 16:54 (twelve years ago) link

dont forget WITTR

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 05:54 (twelve years ago) link

Their #21 had only 17 votes. Looks like there weren't as many participants as on the metal poll. We could have totally taken over that poll. So much power wasted. Instead of Graveyard, YOB and Devil's Blood it'll be Adele, Pistol Annies and fucking Bon Iver. Perhaps Uncle Acid has a chance.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 2 February 2012 06:49 (twelve years ago) link

METAAAAALLLLLLLLL

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Thursday, 2 February 2012 07:24 (twelve years ago) link

the big poll got 120+ votes. Way more than us . Im guessing the top 10 albums will be getting a shitload with the 21-77 not so much,
but i told you lot all to vote. but metal ilxors just dont like to vote. just lurkers (who arent allowed in big poll afaik)

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 10:26 (twelve years ago) link

i dont think hammers of misfortune will place now. Bit weird our #1 didn't make it tbh. Though it seems the metal that did make it was stuff that crossed over to non metal regs. They didn't vote in our poll (5 ppl judging by the comments on the thread)but voted for liturgy, wittr, mastodon. If everyone pulled together we could've got a dozen albums in easy. We obviously could never agree enough on anything to get a top 10.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 11:57 (twelve years ago) link

We could have totally taken over that poll. So much power wasted.
I did my part, but I did fail to nominate Bruce Lamont, which was stupid. He didn't exactly take over the metal poll though, so who am I kidding?!

For some reason I flipped out talking about the manifesto when really I should have been busy plotting for next year. If Bon Iver wins or is even in the top 3 I will lose a little bit of faith in the people of ILM. Not much, but a little.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

Well we're on the topic, Thanks for playing that Lamont last night. I don't enjoy Yakuza so I ignored his solo record, obviously to my detriment.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

I have to warn you -- there is some singing that you might hate, and it's in the first song, which is interminable. If you can make it past the first 3 min of that without turning it off, it's pretty good the rest of the way.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

He does have a really versatile voice though.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

that seems like a really good excuse to post this

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

Lol u guys! :) Kerr is otm in that most of the metal ranks is filled out by the hidden army of lurkers (I know you're out there, Magnus B!) who may or may not be allowed to vote in the big poll.

Also I voted for Pistol Annies; that was a really good record. It might sound like Dolly Parton's Greatest Hits but its soul lies somewhere between Cut and Nebraska...

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:54 (twelve years ago) link

oh yea also: I'm a bit skeptical that Bon Iver or Adele are going to show up today. I mean, anything's possible--and I don't remember if the #1 P4k album of the year has never not shown up--but I think Tuneyards and Yuck will probably be the worst of it. Adele had probably the biggest song of the year and she couldn't manage to make the tracks poll at all, so I wouldn't worry...

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

that 'never' should be 'ever' :/

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

I wish it sounded like Dolly! I couldn't get past the production to give a shit what they were saying.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

Everyone's allowed to vote btw...we do ask for a username in the cause of transparency but I don't check that it corresponds to a registered user.

two lights crew (seandalai), Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

xp I still don't get that complaint! I think the whole old-timey sound gives the record a kind of edge, in ways that I am just not talented enough to delineate...

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:01 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't hear it as old-timey, which is probably on me not them. I dig old-timey.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:03 (twelve years ago) link

That "Cortez" youtube is pretty amazing.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:04 (twelve years ago) link

Isn't it? I think the lights add a lot. Also, Bruce: more loops and wordless noises pls.

Re: PA -- I love old timey, and I made the mistake of watching a Pistol Annies video instead of just listening to the song.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:06 (twelve years ago) link

I'm just going by what kjb and emil.y were saying (or at least what I thought they were saying) more than anything EZ...

I dont...get your complaint either?

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

iirc it was really glossy. Not to my liking, and that impression made me not like the song because...I am a feeble minded monkey?
