David's Last Summer mashed up with This Is Hardcore?

nope! But you got my first clue .. clue #2 has one erroneous detail that hopefully will not distract you from the larger clue at hand.

Ah--"With some kid named David." I'm kind of slow today.

!Alicia!, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

you've done well :)

I feel like the top 5's lyrics have all been more difficult for me to find good images for, gah!

"Computer Love"?

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

Seconds at #7 is the biggest surprise of the poll by far.

Pink Glove was my #1. The lyric kills me every time, I think I feel that one more personally, in my gut, than any other Pulp song. It's not even because the story in the song has happened to me IRL, but it just *feels so real* to me. I mean, who hasn't gone halfway crazy over loving someone who didn't love you back? If that feeling has been expressed in a song better than in "Pink Glove", I have yet to hear it.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

Heh, no - not Computer Love.

I think of Pink Glove & She's A Lady as songs that go, er, hand in hand, so was very surprised to see one rate so much higher than another! I was also pretty surprised about Seconds - not that it isn't good - just that it's never one that pops into my head as something I want to put on.

If there's ever a poll where one song might appear on 100% of the ballots, it's this one.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

It didn't!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

It wouldn't have appeared on my ballot had it not been for the "Common People Lyrics" thread. I was sick of the song for years and never bothered listening to it until that thread. I put it on one day when walking and it was really, really awesome.

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

I inexplicably forgot to include "First Time" on my ballot, where it would have placed around, well, #3. Relieved that it didnt affect the rankings.....

I don't think I realized "This Is Hardcore" was so beloved; I had the impression it was just me!

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:30 (twelve years ago) link

I *adore* TIH, personally. I've no time for Common People, having heard it a thousand times. It's great, yes - but not anymore, to me.

#1 - COMMON PEOPLE - 21 votes, five #1s, 641 points

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:32 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't vote for it. Brilliant lyric, but I'm sick of everything else. This Is Hardcore was my #1 - I'd hoped it might just pip it.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

Actually kind of surprised at how well that did.

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

Ha, that was a great clue photo. Common People wasn't on my ballot. I still like it after all these years, but I've just heard it too many times, and I think Pulp have plenty of songs that are just as good or better.

!Alicia!, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

Ironically - Seductive Barry and Ciao!, which I was manically pulling for, in with a bullet at ...59 and 58.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

"Ansaphone" and "Running the World" were top 50. That's pretty good.

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

oh dammit, if I'd voted I MIGHT have been able to get "Seductive Barry" onto the countdown

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks Alicia! I was feeling inspired :)

Bar Italia is one I definitely thought would place higher.
