It's beyond time for him to have his own thread. This new Boiler Room mix/live set is fantastic:

Just as a refresher.

matt2, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 14:07 (seven years ago) link

Love this dude. And the Omar-S remixes of 578 are awesome.

Check out the Seltene Erden 12" dudes, it's Gunnar Wendel too! "Hoidas Lake" is one of my favorite recent ambient things:

I just got introduced to Kassem Mosse's stuff a few weeks ago, and it's incredible. I will be buying whatever I can get my hands on... There's so much space in the music, and his beats have a tight/loose feel that works amazingly. Check out his Resident Advisor podcast as well... I hope to catch him DJ at some point.

Is that the thing at camp? With either fabric birthday or warm on sat prob not going anywhere on fri

post, Wednesday, 19 October 2011 21:39 (seven years ago) link

Yes. Realized i'm not really willing to negotiate what will probably be a huge line at fabric. And this was 3 pounds! (Not incl. Service charges, but still).
Should be fun.

nobody else sounds like him (well, maybe lerosa and vakula, a bit) and his stuff is super fresh yet it also slots in and plays nice with pretty much whatever you want, house, techno, dubstep, minimal, IDM, etc? ten (out of ten) essential singles over the last four years? unstoppable live set that is just him doing live unreleased stuff?

there is not much to say about this guy except he is pretty much young pac in the flesh.

from last year but haven't been posted here:

In case anyone is trying to get the Kareem Moser vinyl on Omnira, the newletter sent out today says it's getting a re-press:

"because people have been asking us about OMNR-333 (JUNIPER/KOWTON/KMOSER split 12") quite a lot and also because we are pretty unhappy about the silly prices asked for the record on discogs ( which is obviously based on a lot of speculation and is not supportive of the artists at all) we would like to inform you that a repress is coming up soon."

All the tracks from the forthcoming Mix Mup & Kassem Mosse album MM/KM have gone up on youtube in the last couple of days. Sounds like it's going to be pretty great.

Valéry Giscard d'Staind (NickB), Friday, 23 March 2012 10:11 (seven years ago) link

it leaked, and it's pretty great

sisilafami, Friday, 23 March 2012 11:52 (seven years ago) link

he used to sound abstract to my ears but now I'm beginning to appreciate the beauty of his works. I'm craving more stuff like this. what "scene" is this? abstract house? experimental house? what labels/artists/mixes should I check out? so far I'm digging Morphine, Dekmantel, Workshop. and STL for producer

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 07:17 (seven years ago) link

morphosis maybe

sisilafami, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 10:34 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I would say maybe some Morphosis although not all of his stuff works for me. Really KM has a pretty unique sound to me, making it hard to directly recommend others for comparison. Also loving his forthcoming remix of Madteo:

matt2, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 17:01 (seven years ago) link

He also seems to have an upcoming remix of Mistakes Are OK: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/mistakes-are-ok-remixes/451013-01/

matt2, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 17:04 (seven years ago) link

Maybe try some Marcellus Pittmann dan138zig:

Those last two are with Theo Parrish and Omar-S, who I think are acknowledged influences.

matt2, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 17:12 (seven years ago) link

you can get a pretty good idea where he's coming from listening to his dj sets, here's another one he used recently along the lines of theo and omar (this is on fxhe)

the late great, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 17:26 (seven years ago) link

like this guy a lot but I need to hear more. think my workday listening today is gonna be just start at the top of this thread and work my way down the youtubes.

dmr, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 17:52 (seven years ago) link

^ i'm doing something similar today actually. this dude has a LOT of music, i didn't realize that with all the eps i've collected amount to 3-4 hours of music. and based on this thread i'm missing quite a bit, too

akadarbarijava (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 18:26 (seven years ago) link

I've listened to bits of morphosis and I have to say his music is pretty "beatless" compared to the manic percussions found in kassem's works, which is one of the things I like the most from him. as for marcellus pittman, yeah, I dig his works.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 01:38 (seven years ago) link

anyone managed to figure out the tracklist of his OTAM mix from 2010? http://outthereaminute.wordpress.com/2010/05/05/guest-interviewotam-mix-23-kassem-mosse-workshopmix/

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 03:28 (seven years ago) link

a lot of sounds familiar but tweaked somehow ... like maybe it's a lot of random revivalist detroit / chicago stuff on labels like delsin and clone that slip under my radar

like the track at 0-5 sounds like b12 or as one but i don't recognize it
the track at 10-15 sounds like drexciya but i don't recognize it
the track at about 30 minutes in sounds like it came out of my endless acid house comps (box acid? battery acid? big dick acid?) or it could be som e new thing
the track about 40 minutes in sounds like an edit of levon vincent

sorry i can't be much help, i know he spins a lot of weird shit and does edits of stuff too

the late great, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 06:44 (seven years ago) link

thanks for your effort, late great. but surely somebody knows the acid freakout at 53:00? sounds very familiar to me.

Addicted to his Siege Of Troy album right now, playing it several times a day. He really can do no wrong.

My local record shop got about three copies of that and they sold out before I could get there and it seems to have sold out everywhere online :(

paolo, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 07:30 (six years ago) link

I'm psyched about hearing this one too

Striking a dialogue with Gunnar Wendel (aka Kassem Mosse), Gualdi realized an objective opinion and arrangement know how would allow clarity and an even greater freedom — that from her own music. Confident the tracks stood strong, Gualdi gave little guidance to Wendel, relying instead on their mutual sonic and structural appreciations to steer the end goal.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 10:26 (five years ago) link

I've listened to a few random EPs by this guy and I have to say I'm not taken yet. What it reminded me of was some of the early-2000s IDM I used to listen to on labels like Neo Ouija, but I've got it on good authority that his stuff is the bomb so maybe I should investigate further. He seems to have quite a sprawling catalogue so it's not obvious where to start. I'll give this new one a whirl soon.

Yes! Have been playing this a lot this week.

toby, Monday, 2 March 2015 05:35 (four years ago) link

It strongly suggests he should do more work with vocals (as does whichever Workshop 12" track has a slightly cut up vocal sample - don't have time to look for it right now).

toby, Monday, 2 March 2015 05:37 (four years ago) link

this ep is amazing

lex pretend, Monday, 2 March 2015 09:41 (four years ago) link
