What a great generation of great bands, From Staind, to LB, to Korn, You don't see collaborations anymore these days. Props to the best lead singers. Fred Durst, Aaron Lewis, Jon Davis, Chino Moreno, etc who shared their time to create deep and fun and aggressive mind-blowing music. It's so rare to hear these names in this day in age.

six months pass...

I'm kind of touched that Fred thinks a bloke strumming a guitar and emo-mumbling is as real as I do.

Were they the age for it?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 04:06 (twelve years ago) link

they were the jeans size for it, presumably

The artwork for Dysfunction reflects its title. All four band members are depicted with dysfunctional properties related to their position in the band; Aaron (vocalist) is shown without a mouth, Mike (guitarist) is shown with webbed hands, Johnny (bassist) is shown with only one arm and Jon (drums and percussion) is shown with a pegged leg. Finally the most obvious reference to the album's title is on the cover; the clown's reflection is incorrect.

Musical style

Staind play a form of post grunge with varying elements from nu-metal, alternative rock and alternative metal. Topics of their lyrics cover issues of depression, relationships, finding oneself, betrayal and even Lewis' thoughts about becoming a father in the song "Zoe Jane" from 14 Shades of Grey.

Oh, fucking christ... I remember this video getting heavy rotation and constantly marvelling at the spectacle of the introverted bald guy dourly singing his teenage poetry, while the moron in the red hat who hasn't evolved mentally since high school shouts inappropriately over the top of it. The only thing I can think of what would probably match this in terms of cringe is watching someone scream the theme tune to 'Wayne's World' at a fucking funeral.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:40 (eleven years ago) link

And yeah, it's definitely "I'm Feelin' Those Lighters". Christ.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Sunday, 13 January 2013 17:41 (eleven years ago) link

Most fascinating part to me has always been the ripples of cheers from the crowd. They are in this moment together, this rare intimate duet of their heroes, and the adulation sways around the stadium. "This is the best night of my life!" someone shouts, but the friend doesn't hear because they are Wooing louder than they have ever wooed, before or since

Z S, Sunday, 13 January 2013 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

i like to imagine Aaron Lewis playing this seated in front of a music stand with the chord changes handwritten sloppily on a sheet of looseleaf paper

NINO CARTER, Monday, 14 January 2013 01:43 (eleven years ago) link

this is the only time I can ever say I like to imagine Aaron Lewis doing anything but having his mouth closed

NINO CARTER, Monday, 14 January 2013 01:43 (eleven years ago) link

at 0:43 Durst's right foot and Lewis's left tap in exact unison. says so much to me about the love this generation of musicians brought to our sad world

too many encores (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 14 January 2013 02:52 (eleven years ago) link
