Lee Ann Womack - S/D?

No thread devoted to her! Unbelievable.

There's More Where That Came From, one of the decade's best albums, holds up beautifully, and Call Me Crazy's "The Bees" and especially the smoky "Solitary Thinkin'" rank with her best. I've even learned to love "I Hope You Dance."

what a lovely thing, to start this thread

i like her - u know, " i hope you dance " gets me every time - i think about it whenever i'm staring at the dance floor for too long

Alfred, if you think of it, remind me to tell you a story about one of these songs sometime.

it's funny i remember searching for her name months ago and wondering why there was nothing

I always liked her song, "I may hate myself in the morning" -- such a classic.

from one listen, this is at least on its level

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 1 November 2017 16:41 (three weeks ago) Permalink

it's really incredible what she does with a done-to-death song like "long black veil" imo

Sounds great to me, sort of like more recent Lucinda Williams with a more traditionally beautiful voice.

I love this record to bits.

It feels longer than the others, but, man, was I surprised that she co-wrote more than half the album. The songs sound like obscure classics she's resurrected. And producer-husband Frank Liddell knows what to do with her.

She was so good when I saw her in a club a couple of years ago. I couldn't tell if she was there because she wanted to or because country music has moved on and there's no place for music that sounds like this in bigger places. Probably the latter. But she was superb.

This and the Charlie Worsham album are my favorite country albums of the year, which means they're among the best of the year.

I just love how every song takes its time.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 17:56 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I've only listened once, but each song had something that grabbed my attention

President Keyes, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 17:57 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Worsham is Liddell, too, right? Just like lots of Miranda Lambert?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 17:58 (three weeks ago) Permalink

god this record sounds so good

is this my album of the year

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Saturday, 4 November 2017 20:49 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Might be mine, but I'd lose four songs.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 4 November 2017 20:54 (two weeks ago) Permalink

which four though

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Saturday, 4 November 2017 20:59 (two weeks ago) Permalink

"Long Black Veil" is OK but she has spent the last eight years making the gesture redundant. I'd confine "Shine on Rainy Day," "Someone Else's Heartache," and "Take the Devil Out of Me" to b-sides.

I like Lee Ann Womack but "I Hope You Dance" would be on my worst songs list

cut cut (crüt), Sunday, 5 November 2017 14:01 (two weeks ago) Permalink

at least three of those songs are my faves on the record alfred

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Sunday, 5 November 2017 14:05 (two weeks ago) Permalink

You're welcome!

alpine static, Sunday, 5 November 2017 15:28 (two weeks ago) Permalink

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Sunday, 5 November 2017 15:30 (two weeks ago) Permalink

"Hollywood" is such a good song

Heez, Sunday, 5 November 2017 17:09 (two weeks ago) Permalink

"Talking Behind Your Back" is a beauty. Dean Dillon co-write!
