What are the best / official Lil Boosie mixtapes?

I remember there was that one that the Fader linked too way back, that opened with 'undeniable talent,' and my favorites were two that came out right back to back -- one was superbad & the other one was right before that but i cant remember what it was for the life of me.

anyway, is there any way we can try to sort through & determine the actual Boosie discography & separate it from the gajillions of cash in tapes itt?

that fader one from when he was on the cover (good look) was called 'da beginning' & i think it's his best full lenth after 'bad azz'

as for the other one, i can't tell if you're talking about 'streets made me' or 'thug passion -- i think the former was actually a cash in tape, i'm not positive tho

i keep meaning to look through my itunes and see if i have more to add to this thread than that Thug Passion and Da Beginning (Life After Katrina Vol. 1 and 25th Hour being among the good but inessential ones). Boosie probably has the messiest and least universally canonized discography of all the big mixtape rappers of the last few years.

'superbad' mixtape is my fav i think (thats the one that has 'long journey' which is essential imo)

see i never even got that one because i was like "is this an album leak? i'm just gonna wait for the retail version." does it have a lot of songs not on other releases?

the dj drops on these are super annoying, tho

they all sounded like major label album tracks, esp the track w/ a peak-era T-Pain chorus. it was super confusing to me why they never made the album & only leaked out on one tagged-up mixtape

that t-pain track is great

every track in that run is amazing. it came out right after thug passion, which i thought was a huge step up as was, then i heard 'return' mixtape & it was just like, each song was dope, track after track

thats a pretty empty post but my point is, i couldnt believe that he seemed to be stepping it up, then took an even bigger step on a tape that was released like one week later

seriously how did his label drop the ball so completely? 'take you down' is hit material, should have been on billboard

& this was fresh off the trill fam comp right??

yeah it being out so soon after Thug Passion was the other reason i flaked out on hearing it

at this point it kinda goes without saying that Trill shit the bed in so many ways with his career

yeah it's crazy that "independent" was this massive smash that sorta felt like the next wave of trill ent radio jams and then they pretty much fell off the face of the earth

i never really had any sense of how hands-on Pimp actually was w/ the label -- even in the couple years between him getting out of jail and dying there were no real visible fingerprints of him having much involvement musically or businesswise

when i did my year-end '09 mix i was trying real hard to fit 'got them hos like' on it but the ughhh loud drops -- like double the track volume -- made it impossible

you might know better than me, maybe he was a figurehead idk -- he just seemed like the kind of dude who would be hands on & i know he was involved w/ pushing boosie & webbie early on but who knows xxp

asylum kind of sucks as a label imo

i love Webbie's flow on "Long Journey" -- maybe Jordan not-sargent can come in & tell us what hes doing rhythmically but it just sounds great, the way the beat drops out & everything...

like the emphasis is on the off-beats or something

imo Asylum deserves a lot of credit for trying to do things differently within the major label system and find a good commercial middleground for regional/non-crossover type rap, but obviously there have been missteps and varying degrees of success

i don't think they have much of a plan for breaking their artists big tho

i mean they weren't even planning 'flockaveli' as an album until "no hands" became a hit

man, just realized no one at pfork has reviewed a boosie record. wish id pitched 'incarcerated' now

"sunshine" off 'superbad' is another choice joint

maybe you could pitch a career retrospective once he gets four life sentences or whatever

yeah dude like i said the first 6 (really, could go to 10, although 7-10 are like a decimal of a degree below the first 6) tracks are some of the best ish he ever did

my personal POX boosie would have at minimum three of those tracks ha

don't know much about his mixtapes but "Do It Again" off of Incarcerated is a nice spin on the 'melancholy rap' tune motif....

that said I 'liked' his FB page and all I get from them are updates saying support the freeing of Lil Boosie and I kinda wanna reply "yo dude I bump your cds but like I think you killed all those dudes"
