Yeah, grapefruit in French and German, although I always assumed the German was borrowed from the French. The word in Spanish is related- "pomelo." In Spain, that is, in lots of Latin American they have another word, "toronja." Their name is a sly tribute to

I was kidding. It's probably not true.

xp yeah, i tried to make the case for some of their songs during the early mass pile-on! i still enjoy those songs and listen to them sometimes, so it should have special resonance when i say this is god-awful.

to solve the above mystery, a grapefruit in german is called "pampelmuse". someone should start a crowdfunded kraftwerk-twee-hybrid with that name.

reddening, you deserve some kind of special ILM commendation for your efforts here. Yesterday we remembered the veterans of our armed forces, today we are thinking of heroes like you.

Cool. I clicked on that video but turned it right off.

Pampelmuse but isn't that the old word and nowadays it's just "die Grapefruit"?

Get rid of Natalie and put the keyboard guy in a suit that restricts everything but his arms/hands (and covers his face) and they'd be tolerable.

I'm not going to watch.

Just curious about the setlist's 'originals:covers' ratio

billstevejim, Sunday, 13 November 2011 07:09 (twelve years ago) link

60:40, maybe? maybe even more weighted toward originals than that.

after a good night's sleep i'm still kinda O_O at the confluence of negative factors: sloppy musicianship throughout, strained and wobbly lead vocals, cartoonish background vocals performed smirkily, like "oh well, we can't do any better, might as well make a joke out of it!" the ironic pop covers were listless and badly performed, everyone's stage presence was grating and try-hard, and they just would NOT shut up and let their music speak for itself, AT ALL. i can see their patter working in front of an audience already familiar with them from youtube, but this crowd wasn't into it and they refused to change tactics or dial it back for the entire show.

A propos of the German-language and the weird cover version themes:

3. Kamran says that this project is costing Dawn “money out of pocket.”

If that is true, then it means that this recording is going to cost much more than $100,000. She only asked for $20,000 initially, so why will it now cost well over five times that amount? In the same interview (Part 3), both of them say that they initially recorded their music (the music that made them famous) with only a microphone and MBOX. A microphone and MBOX should not cost more than $2,000, but now she needs over $100,000 to do a solo recording? The only way we’ll know if she’s actually spending her own money on this is if they post their income tax returns next year. I doubt that will be forthcoming as I’m sure their high-powered LA entertainment lawyer would advise otherwise.
