It's a guitar jam, though. I don't have a strong opinion on Maggot Brain one way or another, but it wouldn't have been recorded if it was played on xylophone.

And Love Will Tear Us Apart would've been a great pop tune if the band had had a better singer and they'd mixed the vocals higher. What's up with the mix on that song?

id rather see "yeah this is a great track " rather than "oh no i hate this track i wish it hadn't placed"

It's a bit too slow, I think the tune needs a higher tempo. And Paul Young isn't a particularly good singer either. I wish someone would do a good uptempo synth pop version of Love Will... and redeem it.

BTW, my Maggot Brain comment was supposed to be a gag, in case you didn't get it. It's a good tune, but extended guitar solos have never been my thing. Granted, in that category it must be the best example I've ever heard.

Yeah for everyone who voted for 'teenage kicks' I don't think I'll ever get bored of that song, I've been hearing it for seven years now and I still get the same rush everytime.

useless trivia: I originally thought it was a woman singing, not a man. I was very confused when I first saw a youtube of them recording the song.

Have you heard of Bis? They did a synth version of it a few years ago but the vocals are a bit more computerised.

Good to see "A Day In The Life" in there. Hopefully there is still "Strawberry Fields Forever" to come (and if "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "Rain" is also up there, The Beatles may well be the one act with four entries in the list - even with this being ILM)

Sure, but my hatred of rock music has also made me highly allergic of rock guitars and especially rock guitar solos. "Maggot Brain" is one of the few examples where I've managed to mostly get over that allergy to appreciate the tune for what it is.

The vocal is louder in the Peel session version of LWTUA and also in the alternate version on the single. I didn't vote for it, but I'm pleased that it's here.

That album is weird in that I think it justifies its canonical status as a body of work, but most of the individual songs are weak.

well, "strawberry fields forever", of course. that hasn't shown up yet, has it?

i didn't give much love to the beatles, voting only for "and your bird can sing" and "she said she said", neither of which i expect to see make the cut. odd thing is that they aren't really my favorite beatles songs, but i've heard my favorites so very many times by now. anyway, i'm really glad that "a day in the life" did so well, blew my mind out when i was a kid (not necessarily in a car).
