no hidden track (-0:01 -> ), no credibility.
also, need to work on doing some img redirection, try imgur imho.
Must remember to vote. Laughing, or Draun? Rocking out, or melancholia?

Kind of a turning point, where they unveiled their mature sound, no? Maybe that's why I don't like it much. "Draun" for me, though "Goz" has a lot of what I like too.

I think they still do! Only they're turning in directions I'm not so keen on. And maybe not turning quite so sharply, it's true.
I remember playing this in the car on the way to my first ae gig in Edinburgh. But can it really have been 1997? That was my last year of uni and I thought it was before then. Otoh that fits time-wise with Boards of Canada being the support (had no idea who they were of course. Actually thought they were the main event for a bit, as unbeknownst to me they were the second of two support acts.)
Goz: Scratching! Sampling! Even their closest take on electro sounds like nothing else on earth. Then that non-melody comes and bumbles all over the track, I don't know why I <3 it but I do. And it's all tied up with some trademark sad synths. PS Does Kool Keith really say 'I jam like Autechre'? I somehow doubt it.
Latent: Weakest track for me, although I like the edgy feel there's just not quite enough substance there.
Laughing: \m/ d((-_-)b \m/
I can still get lost in this track, trying to figure out what exactly are they doing with those sounds?! Incredible folded, scraped, twisted noises, kick-ass beats, and they still manage to squeeze a haunting melody in there.
Draun: *melts*. The layers of chords and tiny electronic melodic fragments that build up from 4:40... and then the beat drops out at 8:00 and it all just hangs there for nearly three more minutes. Emotive ae at their finest.
Also: WAP 89X: 'Alternate version' of the standard 12", released in in identical sleeve. 'Laughing Quarter' is the same as the standard 12" and CD versions until about 6:14, where it changes into a more choppy version of the final beats.

This is one of their more drab releases from 1993-1997, IMO. Draun wins over Goz by a hair (and yeah, the difference maker is the last few minutes of the track, when it just "hangs there" after the beats drop out).

this ep is all good. i love the way latent starts out tense and a little aggressive, and slowly progresses through a few different moods before ending pensive
