Anti-harDCore: No Trend C/D?

They started out as really pissed-off Dischord scene outsiders with a huge Flipper and PiL jones but ended up as... an audience baiting mock-ska/lounge/noise band? Sure, happens all the time, but somehow No Trend were special.

Or at least their early self-released records are. Their later releases on Touch and Go--and their final album, which T&G refused to release because it was "too weird"--are awful. So: classic or dud?

Don't know, but is the one T&G refused available anywhere? I have a minor obsession with unreleased albums.

the no trend record is available through morphius records, http://www.morphiusrecords.com

Most classic. "Teen Love" is one of the greatest songs ever written, and is an amazingly accurate description of most of the folks at my high school back then.

i've only heard one (their first, i think) and it fucking rules. but flipper+pil influences is something i've always wanted to hear. in one band.

I just bought their "Too Many Humans" LP off Ebay, but it has no insert and there's no track listing on the sleeve or the record!! I also haven't been able to find one on Google. Does anyone have this record that can help me with the track listing??

Oh, while I'm here, No Trend are definitely fucking CLASSIC if just for "Teen Love"!!

I think there's a tracklisting in the back of the 'American Hardcore' book (fella who wrote it was their manager), I'll have a look when I get home

DJ Mencap0))), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 11:57 (thirteen years ago) Permalink

Thanks a lot, I'm thinking probably a lot of the songs are on the Teenbeat demos CD so maybe I'll recognise them, not sure. I only bid on it cos the seller had the Teen Love 12" for sale as well and figured I'd get them both, then got outbid on the 12"!

Hey! "Teen Love" and "Cancer!" I'm even on a split LP, "Gift of Noise," with 'em and some others, here:

Cool thanks Mencap!! I do recognise most of those song titles from the demos CD, haven't had a chance to listen to the LP yet cos I was out watching the Wedding Present last night.

Okay this is something that I have been trying to figure out if it is true or not. Did No Trend really destroy the master reels of all their albums therefore making it impossible to re release any of them on cd, and also throwing every last copy of all their albums into the audience at a show???

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 09:02 (twelve years ago) Permalink

well "tritonian nash" was released on cd, and there's a teenbeat cd of their early stuff.

baby, disco is fuck (yournullfame), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:41 (twelve years ago) Permalink

and you can release something on cd that you didn't have the analog master for, too - just go from vinyl.

oh and classic.

wangdangsweetpentangle (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:44 (twelve years ago) Permalink

The Teenbeat CD only covers the Teen Love 7" plus a few demos & live. Everything else apart from Tritonian Nash and the unreleased album that came out a couple of years ago seems to be gone for good unless someone bootlegs it.

You can get Too Many Humans & Dozen Dead Roses off Slsk quite easily though ;)

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 16:24 (twelve years ago) Permalink

Yeah, I own both Tritonian Nash and Teen Love the early months. I've never gotten anything off of Slsk before so I don't know how that works, It would be totally awesome if someone could inform me about how that works.
And has anybody heard that unreleased last album they made(it's out now though right?)? Is it any good?

Something great about "Teen Love" is how it's like a parody of '60s car-crash singles (like "Give Us Your Blessings") -- except the doomed kids aren't tragically, hopelessly in love, they're just (true to the band's worldview) average suburban teens going through the dating-ritual motions.

While-enhanced revelation: The "someone tell me what to do!" bit, the delivery if not the throat-shred-ness, is totally like Weird Al in "Mr Popeil"

No Trend leader Jeff was just showing a movie he had made 20 years ago, at the AFI theatre outside w. d.c.

The Teenbeat CD goes for like $100 on Discogs and Amazon or whatever - is that stuff available anywhere else?
I would love to get "Teen Love" and not spend a fortune...

She Got the Shakes, Sunday, 31 March 2013 22:40 (five years ago) Permalink

it is all out of print and badly in need of reissue, don't know if that will ever happen... I don't have the Teenbeat CD but I do have the Teen Love EP and a decent rip of the 1st LP if u wanna PM me.

God I wish the 12" version of TEEN LOVE would get reissued. I suppose it's a matter of hoping they have a fan at Light in the Attic or some label like that willing to do the legwork. It's just the best song

Your Ribs are My Ladder, Saturday, 5 March 2016 19:56 (two years ago) Permalink

I think I prefer the 7" but that's probably cos it's the version I know best as I bought the teenbeat cd years ago and only know the 12" version from slsk

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 5 March 2016 22:48 (two years ago) Permalink

That Teenbeat CD goes for like a hundred bucks! Do you... have it ripped anywhere?
