From the back cvr of my cheapie cheapie compilaition CD - "mixing guitar-based rock with hip-hop's manipulation of sound bites, electronic effects and electrobeats". I have long loved "E=MC2" but have no idea about the rest. What do you think?

I've always loved "Bottom Line," excellent hook on that one. In any case the B.A.D. style seems very in vogue at the moment.

Capable of great singles - "The Bottom Line," "Medicine Show," "E= MC2," "Contact," "Rush," "The Globe,"....but will forever live in the shadow of The Clash.

"C'mon Every Beatbox" was crap tho'.

I think I'm the only person who will admit to liking the B.A.D. II album. Clash samples and all...

I loved B.A.D. II back in high school. Something about its consciousness of itself, what with the 'rhythm and melody' breakdown on "Rush," and the psuedo-orchestral theme at the end that reprises all the songs ... I really liked the campiness. "The Globe" drove me to buy the album after I heard it on the radio -- I remember wondering why they edited out the verse on the album version about 'napalm cornflakes in my Special K.'

Looking back on it these days it is definitely kind of cheesy, but it still has its charm. "I Don't Know" has a cool guitar lick, and the slo-mo synthesized section at the end of "When the Time Comes" adds a nice chill to the record's indie-dance-with-a-touch-of-social- consciousness vibe.

Heh. B.A.D. were one of the only bands I listened to in grade 10 and probably inspired my love of samples. Soon after, peers et al made me feel ashamed of owning their albums; I never sold them because I didn't want a record store clerk to link them with me. The records have barely moved from where I left them then. But a soft spot remained and persists even now, and since you're asking: you should try the self-titled debut with "E=MC2" on it before anything else. That may well be the only track you like, but it's possible you'll see a little of what I once did.

Owning the greatest hits is enough for me, but there are quite a few good tracks on there - check out "Bottom Line" (like Mark said, what a hook!), "E=MC2", "Medicine Show", "Rush", and "Looking for a Song". It's not so great an album to interest me in seeking out their albums, but I still like it.
