"Wall of Death." GREAT album.

Walking on a Wire or Wall of Death. So tough - I'll go with the latter.

i have no idea. i love this album, but it's an accumulation of great track after great track that gets me. there certainly isn't a standout. for such an evil album, it's very subtle.

that said, i'll vote for wall of death, only because it's the one that makes me want to listen to it all over again.

if i had it to do over again, it would be "man in need." but that'll probably change as soon as the next track comes on. thanks for pointing this album out... it's been a good year since i listened to it.

Very hard. Voted "Wall of Death," one of the great album closers. This album is soooooo good.

Title track, for guitar that sounds like Link Wray.

And my #2 might actually be "Back Street Slide," which nobody has mentioned yet either.

It's a great album but it's harsh and kind of hard to love. I'm not really surprised that the big pop song won--I voted for it while wondering if I was taking the easy way out.

don't renege on our love and man in need getting no votes is a shocker. both of those are personal favorites.

Did She Jump or Was She Pushed? was always the weakest track imo and much worse than the ones that got shutout

I'd have voted "Don't Renege On Our Love" second if we could rank our votes; its churn gives the album urgency in opening; and Richard's vocal is his best on the album.

has anyone heard the new Richard record? i'm actually going to see him next month, thought if the new songs sounded good onstage I'd buy it. seems to be getting good reviews, but all of his albums get good reviews, don't they?

Did anyone get the Rhino Handmade deluxe edition? I was listening to this today and it made me want the live set. I just think $40 a tad too much. Plus I don't have a spare $40 right now.

I've got a couple, but I'm intrigued as to what the compiler thought would make a representative outing, or the best performances or what-have-you. Plus, he booklet loks cool. I'll just grumble and drop hints and see if it materializes for my birthday at the end of the month.

it's very slick, and in parts it's stiffer compared to the later official re-recording, but all the guitar solos are completely different and Linda sings the lead on 'Don't Renege' & an early version of 'Wrong Heartbeat', so if you're a fan...

yeah the rafferty version is worth seeking out. kind of amazing it hasn't been officially released, considering all of the archival Thompson stuff that has been put out over the years (i guess a handful of the rafferty songs have popped up on comps). richard must really not like it. the woodworm demos that i think precede the rafferty sessions are pretty gorgeous too. I was just listening to those -- amazing version of "just the motion".

The intro to "Man in Need" always reminds me of the guitar sound on Talking Heads' debut.

The funny thing is, I've read him saying some scathing things about the released SOTT, mainly about the drum mix/sound. But iirc, his comments were a deflection in response to a question about how/if the songs reflected his and Linda's crumbling marriage.

The Rhino Handmade edition is totally worth it, nice book packaging with an essay and photos plus the terrific live disc, particularly the title track.
