pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link

after skimming through those bands I think I now understand why ppl listen to black metal

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

why are we talking about "metal" for 12 year olds now?

I blame whoever asked about nu-metal.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

dan, those bands are massively popular amongst girl rockers.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I could seem them being massively popular amongst voice snobs but that doesn't make them any less horrible

lol to prove my statement upthread, I am really enjoying this Dimmu Borgir song

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I think once you grasp they were mad Christians the lyrics to Bring Me To Life and My Immortal (having not looked very far into their catalogue) put them into a whole different dimension. I think it makes them better, but maybe that's just me.

Evanescence related x-post

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link

no I pretty much agree with you, although not enough to buy an Evanescence album

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:35 (thirteen years ago) link

also Therion is way way way better than all of these Evanescence-esque bands including Evanescence

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Houses Of The Holy - horrible cover apart, I'm never quite sure if it's their best or worst album.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:39 (thirteen years ago) link

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I kind of think you deserve to have your humanity revoked if you dislike "Over the Hills and Far Away"

setting aside that i think it's their best i don't really know how you can even begin to rationalize thinking it's their worst

dark twisted fanta girl (some dude), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I couldn't decide which zep to vote for. 1st 6 are amazing

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Im not a big Zep fan, but the version of Over the Hills on that How the West Was Won live set is fucking spectacular. One of the best things i ever heard them do.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

you know the thing I keep forgetting about Led Zepplin is the fucking amazing drumming

HI DERE, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:47 (thirteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link

ok, that's better. fucking great shit, front to back.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Why it's their worst? 'The Crunge' and 'D'Yer Maker' are silly, 'Dancing Days' isn't all that, 'No Quarter's a dirge, 'The Rain Song' I can hardly hear, and there's only three other songs on it. Arguably.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Sad Wings far, far too low. Like stupidly low. I don't like you all now.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link

I like No Quarter for some reason. Good song when you're blazing.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link

No Quarter is one of my fave zep songs!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link

cheer up EZ Snappin!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Jeez, I was only putting one side of the coin! I could've equally said 'No Quarter's epic, 'The Crunge' funky as get out, 'The Rain Song' the most beautiful thing they ever did, 'Over The Hills' the straight-up best thing they ever did, and who could possibly hate 'The Ocean'?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link

one of my votes for one of my very favourite bands. Pity Hevi (vocalist) has left the band.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Is LJ still sulking btw?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Houses of the Holy -> too many songs I don't like (no thx Rain Song or No Quarter) but the mighty trifecta of Over the Hills/Dancing Days/The Ocean keeps it essential for me.

The Art of Self-Defense -> gave this album a HUGE amount of points. Just heard it for the first time last week and while BBW wz one of my favorite albums of the decade, this just blew it away! Serious awesomeness; the first three High on Fire albums should be mandatory for everyone born with ears.

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I would've voted for this HoF album, perhaps, had I voted.

Seeing Corrupted was my highlight of last year (apart from seeing Head of David, but being one of my favourites ever so I am biased) I am obviously delighted but I still feel not enough people love them.

Also belated WTF you have got Godflesh and Napalm Death RONG you muppets etc.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess this is the place to admit that while I enjoy a bunch of Zeppelin songs (and particularly that great How the West was Won live show album from a few years ago) I find a vast amount of their stuff totally redundant and boring and I think I only voted for Physical Graffiti and couldn't bother voting for any of the other albums.

Mordy, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link

the next band up dabbled in the avant garde, one of the 1st euro metal bands to do so probably. Influenced so many styles too. This is their first album, but LJ would love their others bar one awful album we pretend never happened.
