So I guess what I'm looking for, at least in part, is that mystical English folk influence, lyrics that are lucid and prosaic, songs about the pull of nostalgia and the subconscious -- heavy stuff made enchanting.
Surely something from the Clientele's Suburban Light fits, Nick Drake is almost there. What else do you like from this, the greatest sub-sub-genre?

I didn't know some of the songs you mentioned, but I youtubed them, and thought of "The Carnival is Over" - Dead Can Dance, and maybe "So Long Marianne" - Leonard Cohen.
The English Folk concept reminded me of Bert Jansch. (I saw him last month after not being familiar with his music previously).

Three suggestions for you. Try Arnold from their Hillside disc. Or Gorky's from How I Long To Feel. Or Mojave 3 from Out of Tune.

Great recommendations so far. Stuff I know has been OTM and the New to Me music has been good as well.
