One of the first 'comedy' rap singles? Or, at the very least, an exploration of the rhythm of language, as originated in rock and roll by Chuck Berry, and continued and expanded on by Rap music, and (geirbate) as such has a long history and a long way to go?

"Your goat's made a mess of the carpet" = line pinched from Sister Ray

Time to dig out the Fish People Tapes for a blast of That's Milton Springsteen

All it really needs is the addition of the lines "Ow are yer wife n kids?" and "You 'avin' fish & chips fer lunch then?", and it would be a good simulation of one of the people I was stuck in an office with for three months a few years ago.

Did they put him in a special hospital?

They fucking should have...

Probably a matter of semantics, but I'd probably give the nod to first comedy rap single to "Rapper's Delight". ;-)

Have a love/hate relationship with Fish People Tapes - think it's moments of sheer brilliance interspersed with some periods of semi-tedium. But I like it enough, I guess, and look forward to the "Didn't You Kill My Brother?" poll!

As good a place as any to post my Alexei Sayle story. I was in the Holborn branch of Sainsbury's and saw AS, and was totally dumbstruck. I went back to the office and said "hey guess what, I just saw Alexei Sayle in Holborn Sainsbury's!", only to get a lot of blank looks and "Who's Alexei Sayle?"

Check this, in fact. How exciting. He literally cuts the mustard. (snoball), Monday, 26 April 2010 10:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah I know, I should have saved that one for the autobiography.

Funnily enough, the first time I heard the 'stages of fame' tale was from him..

It went :

Stage 1: "Who's Alexei Sayle?"
Stage 2: "Get Me Alexei Sayle!"
Stage 3: "Get Me an Alexei Sayle Type!"
Stage 4: "Get Me an Alexei Sayle Type that went to Oxford/Cambridge"
Stage 5: "Who's Alexei Sayle?"

ever since i noticed that basically all BBC presenters of otherwise v laudable content had minor/major speech impediments or leered outrageously towards feyness far beyond what is acceptable i can't stand a one of em, there's a string of them and the fact that their programmes usually sound at least quite interesting makes me even angrier about it.

she's one of em, obv
