Found God. It's unknown if God wanted to be found by him, though.

Um, have you listened to her actual albums! There's some great stuff on Full Moon, but some real awful awful stuff too. Even "Full Moon" itself isn't nearly as good as the reaction it gets would suggest.

As for Ma$e, he's now the Reverend Mason Betha. He wrote a book called "Revelations: There's a Light After the Lime." I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list.
Oh, and also remember that at one point, just after the "you remind me of a jeep/car/bank account" phase, R. Kelly found god. He could even be found chillin wit Kirk Franklin. Just look where that got him.

no discussion anywhere about Two Eleven? There's loads of great tracks on this and even the shudder chris brown guest track is a banger

Obligatory ‘why aren’t there 100 posts about’ post to mark the release of B7. It’s rad.

I've never heard R&B sound like this before. the last ~60 seconds of "Rather Be" -- who else is doing it like this? really amazed and impressed
― winters (josh), Sunday, 2 August 2020 06:09 (five years ago)
^Victoria Monét wrote on that song(the ® after Brandy’s name on the album cover is an... interesting touch)

Just the logo / font? It’s the one she’s been using since the beginning.
― Jeff W, Sunday, 2 August 2020 09:36 (five years ago)
I took a look - as I figured, she owns a registration for BRANDY (word mark). It's not uncommon for bands/artists to register their name, I just don't recall ever seeing one use a (R) on a album cover before.

this is great on contact. liking "rather be" enough to top me from digging deeper atm.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 2 August 2020 23:15 (five years ago)
have been turned onto this
it is sounding quite something, on the third track and it's all segueing together wildly
― imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:08 (five years ago)
'Borderline' worked its multi-tracked tragic magic on me but I'm not feeling the rest nearly as much, unsurprisingly.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:10 (five years ago)
i love an album that segues everything, and there's a lot going on tonally, texturally and melodically here. plenty to like imo. yeah it's not jetting off to space (not that it needs to) but i can't pin it down in a good way
― imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:16 (five years ago)
the last minute of 'borderline' is absolutely delightful
― imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:20 (five years ago)
Wish I could hear what you guys are hearing, I think this album is pretty unremarkable.
― Rob, give a listen to Iggy Stooge (morrisp), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:38 (five years ago)
as brad (for it was they) sold it to me, it is quite prog. the rhythms and melodies are a bit...weird, or at least expansive - the harmonies def go hard on the maximalism too. lack of predictability. subtlety and flow. idk i dig it
― imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 22:43 (five years ago)
it's very dawn richard. i'm pretty turned off by the use of r------- in 2020 though.
― monotony, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 23:59 (five years ago)
was brandy always this good

Afrodesiac > Full Moon imo
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Saturday, 8 August 2020 06:51 (five years ago)
"Never Say Never" is better than both
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Saturday, 8 August 2020 08:00 (five years ago)
All are great. But Full Moon probably the closest ancestor to B7.
― Jeff W, Saturday, 8 August 2020 08:01 (five years ago)
will investigate ty
― imago, Saturday, 8 August 2020 08:55 (five years ago)
so i wanted to check out the new record, but have not heard anything since her second album. so, i'm playing catch up and, holy hell, full moon is setting the bar kind of high.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 10 August 2020 01:37 (five years ago)
like i keep going into each track like, "okay, there's no way they can sustain this for another one" and i've been wrong so far.
about two thirds of the way through.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 10 August 2020 01:38 (five years ago)
nope, was wrong: this album rules. jeez. looking back at my 2002 picks, it's just as good (if not better) than a good chunk of them.
(also, yuck i mostly liked boring indie rock in 2002)
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 10 August 2020 02:05 (five years ago)
four songs into the new record: okay, this is great.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 10 August 2020 02:32 (five years ago)

O_O
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 10 August 2020 02:41 (five years ago)
"full moon" the song is one of the greatest ever. (album v good too though i prob prefer afrodisiac just slightly)

― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 August 2020 14:55 (five years ago)
that's a pretty high ranking for an album that came out a week ago!
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 13 August 2020 15:03 (five years ago)
all great ofc. normally i don't care about things aging well but '04-'06 timbo has not really aged well for me and it keeps afrodisiac from reaching me on the level it did at the time. still super consistent with good songs. human suffers only from being her most conventional record, still has plenty of jams, was surprised to see bruno mars and frank ocean in its credits. i *severely* underrated two eleven at the time, that album is awesome
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 August 2020 15:03 (five years ago)
xp i mean yes i agree and could be owed to some unconscious recency bias but it is kind of the brandy album i've always wanted and is currently my album of the year
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 August 2020 15:11 (five years ago)
it's good! i just need more time to process.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 13 August 2020 15:12 (five years ago)
Other than that I haven't yet had a chance to reach a settled view on the new album, I agree with Brad's ranking, and in particular that Full Moon is better than Afrodisiac.
― Tim F, Thursday, 13 August 2020 23:01 (five years ago)
i've just played 'rather be' about seven times in a row. glorious.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Saturday, 15 August 2020 20:25 (five years ago)
this album has such a weird sense of groove its hard to wrap my head around so far
― ufo, Monday, 17 August 2020 01:21 (five years ago)
Feeling Afrodisiac so hard this morning.
