Um, have you listened to her actual albums! There's some great stuff on Full Moon, but some real awful awful stuff too. Even "Full Moon" itself isn't nearly as good as the reaction it gets would suggest.

As for Ma$e, he's now the Reverend Mason Betha. He wrote a book called "Revelations: There's a Light After the Lime." I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list.

Oh, and also remember that at one point, just after the "you remind me of a jeep/car/bank account" phase, R. Kelly found god. He could even be found chillin wit Kirk Franklin. Just look where that got him.

Just the logo / font? It’s the one she’s been using since the beginning.

I took a look - as I figured, she owns a registration for BRANDY (word mark). It's not uncommon for bands/artists to register their name, I just don't recall ever seeing one use a (R) on a album cover before.

'Borderline' worked its multi-tracked tragic magic on me but I'm not feeling the rest nearly as much, unsurprisingly.

i love an album that segues everything, and there's a lot going on tonally, texturally and melodically here. plenty to like imo. yeah it's not jetting off to space (not that it needs to) but i can't pin it down in a good way

as brad (for it was they) sold it to me, it is quite prog. the rhythms and melodies are a bit...weird, or at least expansive - the harmonies def go hard on the maximalism too. lack of predictability. subtlety and flow. idk i dig it

so i wanted to check out the new record, but have not heard anything since her second album. so, i'm playing catch up and, holy hell, full moon is setting the bar kind of high.

like i keep going into each track like, "okay, there's no way they can sustain this for another one" and i've been wrong so far.

about two thirds of the way through.

nope, was wrong: this album rules. jeez. looking back at my 2002 picks, it's just as good (if not better) than a good chunk of them.

(also, yuck i mostly liked boring indie rock in 2002)

that's a pretty high ranking for an album that came out a week ago!

all great ofc. normally i don't care about things aging well but '04-'06 timbo has not really aged well for me and it keeps afrodisiac from reaching me on the level it did at the time. still super consistent with good songs. human suffers only from being her most conventional record, still has plenty of jams, was surprised to see bruno mars and frank ocean in its credits. i *severely* underrated two eleven at the time, that album is awesome

xp i mean yes i agree and could be owed to some unconscious recency bias but it is kind of the brandy album i've always wanted and is currently my album of the year

Other than that I haven't yet had a chance to reach a settled view on the new album, I agree with Brad's ranking, and in particular that Full Moon is better than Afrodisiac.

i've just played 'rather be' about seven times in a row. glorious.
