i love the skull wars album! and i know what a huge influence mick was on lots of 60's rockers. i'm actually not that familiar with the stuff he did with johnny kidd or billy j. kramer.

if it makes you feel any better the teddy pendergrass thread only got a handful of posts and he was an iconic soul/r&b legend.

My friend Rob Morgan of the Squirrels was majorly bummed out about this -- his band once recorded a whole set of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates songs back for their first album.

As for Teddy, I think it might be because there were two threads splitting the difference?

There's been a ton of posts recently about how Mick Green's guitar stylings influenced Wilko, etcet, on the Dr Feelgood threa.d

I think that was just Bad Luck.

you know what people in north and west philly used to call teddy, right? it was good natured though. they loved him to death and felt bad for him. i loved him.

that Squirrels album is very great, and was my intro to the Pirates. Well worth tracking down. So are the Pirates records with and without Mr Kidd, needless to say!

RIP. Fond memories of the 70's Pirates stuff on the radio here, right alongside Doctor Feelgood. There was a particularly wild Radio One 'In Concert' broadcast IIRC.

that's more like it! he was the only guy who ever made me want to play a telecaster. don't munchen it! is such a great live album.

one year passes...

Just been listening to a new Pirates retrospective. Wears after a while, but you can really hear how Andy Gill nicked loads of his guitar style. Thrilling in small doses.

seven years pass...

I know it's just hoary old pub rock but, fuck me, the guitar sound and playing on this is something else...

Also, I've always really liked this track but had no idea Mick Green was in the Dakotas.
