Cause when the roof caved in and the truth came out
I just didn't know what to do
But when I become a star we'll be living so large
I'll do anything for you

Duh.

Did Loon use this sample, too?

i don't think so - it's pretty recent for a loon sample

"talk dirty" is a pretty fun/wacky song

Pretty sure Jason Desrouleaux is my actual least favorite musician.

Emined - FAP God (The Reverend), Sunday, 19 January 2014 23:55 (ten years ago) link

Wanna hear this new track but YouTube is down. My gym plays Jason DeRulo's 2009 hits fairly regularly, and it always makes me really happy hearing them. 2009 or so was such an awesome time for happy pop music, and DeRulo pretty much embodies that era for me.

Evan R, Monday, 20 January 2014 00:06 (ten years ago) link

derulo's 2009 music made me pretty reliably unhappy

dyl, Monday, 20 January 2014 06:16 (ten years ago) link

can't help but wonder how much better "talk dirty" could be if performed by someone w/ personality like idk trey songz

and had that last clip removed

it's been all over pop and R&B radio for months… and yeah it's a fairly weird recording… if people ran around trying to crown "a song of the winter" or some such shit, this would be a prime candidate…wouldn't be surprised if Girl talk fucks with it…

Christgau:

Albums accomplish this better than singles, often by exploiting our craving for musical confection to expose us to harder stuff -- savories, meat and potatoes, crusty bread, tropical fruit. One of the two I've had on my mind while writing this is a best-seller. The other is by a 59-year-old who's been taking his 1937 Gibson on the road for decades. Neither has gotten the recognition it deserves. Say hello to Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" and Hamell on Trial's "The Happiest Man in the World."

Granted, Derulo's never all that hard. His third album comprises 11 songs about pragmatically carnal sex so mind-blowing that three times he proposes matrimony behind it. I value both sex and matrimony too much to recommend this life strategy. But compared to the predatory Chris Brown of "Loyal" or the chauvinistic Trey Songz of "Foreign," he's so exuberant and playful he helps me get why guys and dolls fall for it--even share their thrills some, vicariously. And his command of contemporary hookcraft is musicianship aplenty by me.

Heard this the other day, and yeah, it's nice, but really, it treads awfully close to Maroon 5 territory, which makes me uneasy. Obviously JD's voice is at least tolerable, though, which is a major step in the right direction.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 20 March 2015 16:29 (nine years ago) link

this song makes me very happy

nxd, Friday, 20 March 2015 16:47 (nine years ago) link

yeah listening again i feel like it is squarely in maroon 5 territory or even like mkto lol, not particularly interesting

i actually like some other desrouleaux songs that basically everyone hates tho so what do i know ;_;

eh "Hold On" definitely wanted to be "Adorn" but none of these songs really have much in common with "Adorn"

My GF texted me about "Jealous" being an "Adorn" knockoff and I trust her judgement.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:15 (nine years ago) link

wow I don't hear it. Still sounds like post-Justin laptop soul moves.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:18 (nine years ago) link

"Adorn" is quite literally laptop soul.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:38 (nine years ago) link

^ lol yep!!

slow the tempo on "adorn" a few bpm and the similarities are pretty striking

dyl, Sunday, 22 March 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i can see the connection between "jealous" and "adorn" ... i still see "adorn" as being outside that group of songs tho

I wasn't into this song at first

But my officemate kept on playing it and now I think it's great, it's one of "those" songs

Looking forward to hearing this everywhere

He was also playing the new Carly Rae and I still think that song is bad and not good and doesn't improve with casual brushes

Sorry Carly, next time... maybe?

arguing that "adorn" is the genesis of songs like this is one of the worst insults i've seen about it. i don't hear it? i mean if you change everything about the production and tempo maybe but those are quite big things.

as a song this one is really nowhere near "jealous"
