Very good band, hope to see them again next time they're in town in a few weeks. Did a brief interview with them earlier in the year.

This came out on Peacefrog right? I think that threw me off. Really thought it was bland. Not sure peacefrog need to trouble themselves with middle of the road indie-pop.

i don't know if i agree with that genre-fication

it's euro downtempo/trip hop with femme vox

cutty, Thursday, 8 October 2009 15:45 (eight years ago) Permalink

Ok, indie-pop prob. isn't the exact genre for it, but it's def. the style of music that's popular on KEXP, a local station that pretty much only plays 'electronic' music when it's filled with weak vocals and 'real' sounding instruments. That's what makes me equate this album with indie-pop. It's basically Hooverphonic for a new generation.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 8 October 2009 15:54 (eight years ago) Permalink

And as Hooverphonic are v. good, all is well!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 October 2009 15:57 (eight years ago) Permalink

Should there be a thread for Hooverphonic?

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 8 October 2009 16:22 (eight years ago) Permalink

definitely trip-hoppy, tho i'd say trip-hop by way of richard x. (or trip-hop that's at least heard richard x.)

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 8 October 2009 16:26 (eight years ago) Permalink

you can't just call anything you want indie pop

cutty, Thursday, 8 October 2009 16:43 (eight years ago) Permalink

good album, "feather" is an awesome song. I also heard trip-hoppy in this, but much less so than what I'd heard from the first album. Mostly just spare, atmospheric synth pop. that's not the same thing, right??

Dominique, Thursday, 8 October 2009 17:17 (eight years ago) Permalink

there's r&b in there too

Saw them live yesterday playing for free at my city. Amazing act. Yukimi has a very powerful voice for such a small body and drummer did some sort of jazz playing every now and then which was brilliant.

Would definitely recommend catching them on tour, they are very different live than on record.

Enjoying the new album so far

This track has a nice 'Auto-Rock' feel to it.

Curious as to why this band, which appears to be getting bigger and bigger, never elicits much response here. I can kind of get how they're not the kind of band to make people love or hate them -- maybe too pleasant? -- but also, I don't really know any other bands who sound like them.

Great first album...following albums=law of diminishing returns

I like Little Dragon but mostly wanted to remark on how odd it is that "Ritual Union" has become such a huge slow burn hit (at least in Australia). I hear it all the time now.

We never talked about this year's album did we.

I feel like I always need to reserve one space in my end of year top 20 for an Andy K record.

I love the TEED remix of 'paris', remember the original version being ok, but never investigated any further.

/ Should I / stood out for me on the new one. Also / butterflies / which was kind of nice and abstract. Like the last one, album seems about half keepers.

Been meaning to listen to this. They strike me as the ultimate hit and miss band. Always worth a listen though
