Le Orme (Psychedelic Prog Recommendations)

I'm looking for some similar bands to Le Orme. I'll probably come as a prog noob but I really like the jazzy aspects of their music, I'm not looking for anything too flashy tho... I'm not really fond of prog bands that go into unnecesary 8 minutes solos just to show off. The less synths the better.

I think Aphrodite's Child has a similar vibe.

Also would like you to listen to Martin Kratochvil & Jazz Q. Unfortunately no songs on youtube. There was one song of them called Toledo on the 'prog is not a four letter word' compilation. Hope you've heard it, if not I heartily recommend it if you're also interested in this sort of music.

Also a tad off topic but just listening to this Aphrodite's Child song right now I think Beck ripped them off with Chemtrails off his last album. Same sort of vocal melody and the mid drum break is nearly identical.

I just realized that unnecesary 8 minute solos and 'jazzy prog' seems like a contradiction. I'm really confused on what I'm looking for here. Just listen to Le Orme and tell me if you can think of anything similar.

all that canterbury scene should do it for you, surely. soft machine vols 1 and 2, early caravan, kevin ayers solo, maybe hatfield and the north...

This has me thinking of 70s Camel for some reason. Like The Snow Goose era. It's really light prog that's very melodic and even has some synth work that's sort of proto-nintendo... but it's all very live sounding.

Kahn (Steve Hillage's first band) has an LP called Space Shanty is the most along those lines that I can think of. And check out Gong too if you haven't already. Also Egg, National Health, fellow Italians PFM, and the Dutch band Supersister.

The Canterbury suggestion was good, go here to check it out.

I'd suggest Picchio Dal Pozzo, who released a great album with strong Canterbury/ psych vibes.
The track Seppia in particular is a stand-out.

if you want a band or album that has the "Ad Gloriam" sound, you aren't looking for anyone who sounds like Le Orme. Least of all Le Orme themselves. Ad Gloriam was made by a short-lived lineup of the band - one with chintzier keyboards - and it's by far the most US/West Coast psychedelic-sounding thing they ever did. the rest of their catalog is very proggy and full of ELP-type instrumental flashiness. i don't know how they hit on the so-simple-it's-genius repeating hook and proto-Big Beat rhythm of "Ad Gloriam" (the hardest part of David Holmes' work was basically done for him), but it's not something they ever recreated.

Canterbury Sound isn't quite right. I almost feel like you'd have to go back to the source, to something American, like The David, to get close.

need to sleep on this one.

xpost - thought about Supersister, but their music is so much more complex than "Ad Gloriam," and it lacks the propulsive repetition. same goes for PDP and Moving Gelatine Plates.

le orme's felona e serona is a monster. ys by il balleto di bronzo and the trip by atlantide are sort of similar. the first three or four nektar albums may do you right too
