It seems we have done "Jordan" and "Steve McQueen" before, but not this one, which IMO is the best Prefab Sprout album. Even better than those two other more famous works.

This album is crowded with amazing tracks. I might have voted for "Nightingales" or "Nancy" or "The Venus Of The Soap Kitchen" or even "The King Of Rock'n'Roll". In the end, however, I went for "Knock On Wood", which is about one hundred light years better than the more famous song with the same title.

Has to be "Cars and Girls", despite personal overkill.

I think "I Remember That" is the big missed opportunity on this album. The intro is really beautiful, but the subsequent choruses are drowned in saxomophone and thus you lose the nuance of the melody.

I would say the sax is a beautiful instrument, and just because Kenny G abused it during the second half of the 80s doesn't mean there is a reason to hate anything with a saxophone in it. Prefab Sprout, for starters, have done some wonderful stuff with sax solos. As have also Bruce Springsteen and Spandau Ballet.

I don't diss the sax per se, just the arrangement doesn't work for me.

OK, I guess Kenny G didn't destroy the instrument's reputation completely, or everyone would have been hating John Coltrane by now. :)
