I don't know... but I hate this guy and would like to feed him alive to a pack of hairy, ravenous wolves.

lol, yeah he's too damn slow, spending too much time on useless side-projects like that Wagon thingie. (he's probably desperately trying to re-invent himself)

I heard Oregon was up for the next one of his 50 state series. That would be a trip. Of course, I've heard the same about half of the other states at some point since "Illinoise" dropped, so we'll see.

Stefanthenautilus, Sunday, 25 January 2009 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

His 10-minute long cover of You Are the Blood by Castanets on the Dark Was the Night compilation is pretty badass.

I cant find the interview but I remember reading he was dropping the 50 states idea and the next album would likely be unrelated to a specifical state, like "seven swans" was.
For a long time I had the idea that he would release a series of eps with 4 or 5 songs related to a state thus ending the project faster and more focused on quality than quantity.

Moka, Sunday, 25 January 2009 22:56 (eleven years ago) link

Then again, Illionis was comprised of 22 album songs and another 18 outtakes and all 40 songs were pretty good imho.

But he could release a lot of eps each with 4 or 5 mediocre songs, thus ensuring that neither quality nor quantity were achieved.

Surprise! New Sufjan Stevens EP, All Delighted People.

$5
http://sufjanstevens.bandcamp.com/

Just listening for the first time (to the first song), and I am, as they say, O_O. Such overblown choir nonsense; what's Sufjan been stressing over all this time? No change, as far as I can tell.

markers, Friday, 20 August 2010 19:16 (ten years ago) link

xp all the songs are streaming (I've only heard 3 songs so far 2, 3 ,4)
there is just way too much treble, higher register notes (accompanied by an higher register chorus)
that much treble might appeal to a really younger crowd though

Dylan Peterson sez Sufjan Is an Insensitive Name:

Surely you've all heard by now that Sufjan Stevens has released a new EP online. This is exciting news for Sufjan fans everywhere, but I would urge you to think twice before paying the 5 dollars to download the music. It was not even 10 years ago when Islamic radical extremists destroyed the World Trade Center on September 11th, and already we're ready to support a man named "Sufjan" as if nothing happened on that tragic day?

but it also makes me sleepy

pretty great song though

I don't care for the rest of the songs

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/news/48540/62dd3cf6.jpg

wtf.

that aside, on some whim i listened to seven swans for the first time in several years, having v much lost interest in him since, and was surprised to find it still packed the punch it did back then.

fun facts about human waste (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 11 November 2012 03:39 (eight years ago) link

yeah, unlike many artists whose post-peak wankery has a negative impact on their older stuff that hasn't happened to Sufjan.

skip, Sunday, 11 November 2012 04:59 (eight years ago) link

i did a bit of a 180 on sufjan this year. i considered him precious since illinois, but i revisited age of adz and found sincerity (if questionable depth) to it. brought me back to seven swans, which indeed still packs a serious punch. he seems like the coolest guy, and i thought that before i saw that incredible album cover.

fennel cartwright, Sunday, 11 November 2012 10:56 (eight years ago) link

Cover looks good, but I'm getting really tired of post-millenial 80's-nostalgia (and I'm born in '84, mind you). I mean, it's a fucking transformer!

Mule, Sunday, 11 November 2012 13:00 (eight years ago) link

no way. thats gundam style. timeless aesthetic, albeit one that's been experiencing a minor revival lately. see: yen tech.

fennel cartwright, Sunday, 11 November 2012 13:16 (eight years ago) link

Hmm.. I stand corrected, then. Think the point still stands, though.
