i only heard this album via my freshman year roommate, and all i remember is 'i am stretched on your grave' over the funky drummer break and the prince cover.

Hmm. Big elephant in this room. Yup.

BBOM or 3B - they're almost the same song, actually.

Come to think of it - LDOOA is also very similar.

"I am Stretched on Your Grave" - best usage of the "funky drummer" beat ever (take that Public Enemy!). I know its Irish trad, but man, when those strings hit in the song's final third, what a payoff. Chills down my back every time.

honorably mentions for ENC, LDOOA & BBOM, tho the whole thing is solid, really. You know you're in the presence of greatness when the lead single and trademark hit, while still highly enjoyable, doesn't even figure into your top five. Personally, I prefer Prince's version (by a slight margin). In terms of song quality, I would rate IDNWWIHG as about equal to The Lion & the Cobra, but I like the production on the former a lot more (too much of that awful 80s canned drum sound/bad synth shit going on on TL&TC - would like a remaster plz).

Oh, man, my girlfriend makes fun of me so hard for loving this album. It's totally a weird teenage mixtape one for me, and while I reflexively went with BBOM, I coulda gone with Grave, Nothing or Emperor without feeling any guilt.

I think I voted for "Feels So Different". I meant to. What a way to announce your intentions from the outset! I love the way the strings boil over near the end. This is one of those albums that it's a little tough for me to listen to with others around, just so fucking intense.

I completely associate this record with Red, Hot + Blue, from around the same time.

"You Cause As Much Sorrow" is a chilling Sunday night anthem.

Alfred you've now named my three favorite tracks on this record in order itt.

would vote for "Three Babies" today. the older I get, the more i love this album.

John, didn’t O’Connor live in Evanston for a while (of all places)? I always wondered if NU students would run into her.

Great, great album, there was a brief period where it seemed like it wasn’t getting much attention even though it was this massive hit when it came out, but I absolutely loved it - it was like the rock album equivalent of Carl Dreyer’s “The Passion of Joan of Arc,” not only because of O’Connor’s look bringing Falconetti’s to mind (after she is shaved on camera) but because of the stripped down, emotionally direct and raw-to-the-bone aesthetic. Powerful.

She lived in Wilmette (of all places) for a time in 2016.
