i feel like that album was annointed elsewhere almost before anyone listened to it. like, this is gonna be the best album ever -- press play -- yeah, this IS awesome, No. 1!! it's good, but so dull and patchy and so not very special.

Sorry, it's little more than 1. Maybe 4-5? Still, nestled in the bottom of those lists. That's not enough to hit the top 10 (I don't think).

I refused to vote AC as its a 2009 release. Will definitely put it in next year (assuming the year won't be so awesome that there are 20 better records released; although fingers crossed.)

Mordy beware the lurkers. Some people wont admit to voting for certain albums simply because they know they will take abuse from some posters for being "corny indie fuxors".
Animal Collective is a 2009 release, but if it places this year it shouldn't be allowed in next years. Otherwise it will end up like that Annie album(which will probably still end up being in next years poll)

I know I moan like fuck about the NME/Kerrang polls, but on ILX ones I try to stay away from that. I might not agree with some of the albums voted for on the metal poll I'm running, but I'm not going to give abuse to people who took the time & trouble to compile a list and email it in. I appreciate the fact that ilxors take the time to do this. I don't think ilxors should be ridiculed for what they vote for which then makes them to scared to admit it publicly.

Maelstrom: Hello. Let's please start by discussing the name of your wonderful band. I understand that "bohren" is German for "to bore" or "to drill." (although I'm sure some people might find the irony or the other mening of "bore" too great) Then you have this club of gore thing. What's up?

Morten Gass: The band name has no real meaning in the first place. It just happens the way a lot of band names had their origin from: we were drunk!!! But besides the fact that we had a few beers too many, we managed to put some important words in this name. "Gore / Bohren" stands for horror movies (especially the Italian stuff like Fulci, Bava, Argento, where you can find some pretty nice drilling scenes as well). Gore is also a secret hidden link to a genius Dutch instrumental band called Gore. The first two Gore albums had a big influence on us. "And the Club of" just means that we wanted to be a jazz band. Playing in smoky, dirty nightclubs, just like Sade. Well, as I said, we were drunk.....

TVotR is on my list. Obviously. Animal Collective, too: hell, if it's there, I'll vote for it. And I'll vote for it next year, too, because it is fucking awesome (am slightly drunk, on a bus, and listening to it, once again, this time after several pints' worth of reappraising Freud). Fuck iconoclasm in all its many forms.

haha, otm. my general boredom with tvotr is unrelated to their critical standing, which surprises me anew every time they end up on all these top 10 lists.

I liked their old stuff a lot, not heard their new album, but I dont see why anyone would hate them so much. Esp when Kings Of Leon and Coldplay are around.

i'm not exactly fond of them either, but shit like animal collective really does make me realise that they're fundamentally tolerable and not worth hating on

i like some animal collective stuff, but i can definitely understand someone feeling outsized antipathy for them the same way i do for the flaming lips.
