And here I was thinking that ILM would've already noted such a sad passing:Delaney Bramlett dies age 69I'd link to my appreciation of Delaney & Bonnie & friends as heard on the soundtrack to Vanishing Point but Idolator doesn't seem responsive at the moment. Crucial for rekindling both Eric Clapton and George Harrison on their post-supergroup playing, D&B's contributions are all but forgotten by this point. "Never Ending Song of Love" is really pretty. A true lost classic of the era.

thanks, jim.yes, Motel Shot is stellar, very intimate and warm.while i was traveling out of the country, "Never Ending Song of Love" and "Sing My Way Home" both made my heart glad on every hearing.tho it wasn't until today that i realized they (along with Leon Russell) were also responsible for the Carpenters' "Groupie Song (Superstar)."

Duane Allman was good with them too--guess that's where he first connected with Clapton--?

Joe McGasko pronounced his name yesterday as DEL-ǝ-nee and I'd always thought of it as dǝ-LAY-nee. Any definitive knowledge on which is correct?

The MC on the Delaney and Bonnie and Friends On Tour with Eric Clapton album pronounces it dǝ-LAY-nee, I've got to assume he would know.
Since Jim Gordon died, I've been listening to that record and Traffic's Welcome to the Canteen, both of which also feature Dave Mason in a guest role. Delaney and Bonnie's (live) version of "Only You Know and I Know" actually came out several months before Mason's did; then D & B released a studio version on their final record, and both they and Mason had hits with it.

Didn't know until recently that they had a B-side with "Superstar," the Carpenters song, or that Bramlett wrote it with Leon Russell (I probably thought Paul Williams did). It's called "Groupie" and not on any of their albums.

(I don't know how accurate that video is--it's actually about Jim Morrison?)
― clemenza, Thursday, 25 May 2023 14:43 (one week ago) link
Note that Rita Coolidge was also a co-writer, and came up with the original idea which she brought to Bonnie, but was uncredited at the time (because of Delaney?) although Usher eventually credited her when he did a version as part of a Luther Vandross tribute. Don’t think it has anything to do with Jim Morrison. I recommend you read Rita Coolidge’s memoir, Delta Lady.
