You know how hard it was to cue up a track on this record, since the label had one listed sequence while the actual CD with all the skits and shit had another?

өөө (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 19 December 2008 16:48 (eight years ago) Permalink

^^^yes - also there were different versions of this CD pressed; my copy has Gz Up, Hoes Down instead of Pump Pump on it, for instance.

There was even a brief period when I preferred Sally Forth. (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 19 December 2008 16:56 (eight years ago) Permalink

might go with Doggy Dogg World for having the best non-Snoop verses on the record

Love hearing the radio version of "Ain't No Fun" which they still play ALL THE TIME.

"Well if Kurupt gave a ****
about a *****
I'd always be broke,
I'd never have no mutha******'
**** to smoke"

etc

Spencer Chow, Friday, 19 December 2008 19:45 (eight years ago) Permalink

Damn, was just about to post those Kurupt lyics. This is between "Ain't No Fun" and "Doggy Dogg World" for me, but I think I'm leaning toward the latter.

I mean, Nate Dogg is cool, but the fabulous Dramatics are cooler.

Ruff and rugged shit, it's unexplanitory how I gets wicked

Check it, I'm runnin hoes in 94, now must I prove it

Voted "What's My Name". I kinda like this wave of G-Funk styled albums, although I prefer "All Eyez On Me" to this one.

"AINT NO FUN" FOREVER

billstevejim, Wednesday, 24 December 2008 02:06 (eight years ago) Permalink

haha i voted w/ geir -- 'whats my name' was my favorite when i was a kid.

this album is so perfect -- im kind of tired of 'aint no fun' just because i do hear it all the time -- not tired in the sense that if someone put it on i wouldnt be into it, more just seems like a boring poll option as a result

i suppose no one is gonna vote for Serious Rap track like "Murder was the Case"?? thats on par w/ the party joints imo

g'z and hustlaz is cool, love the o.g. track it samples too

That's one of my favorite songs off of Doggystyle. That looping piano bit over that drumbeat is infectious. not to mention Kurupt kills it on that song. it's probably my favorite track of the second half.

The nadir, though, is reached early on side two, with 'Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)'. Presumably the 213 associates - the track reunites Snoop with his former bandmates, Warren and Nate - felt this was a harmless lark, a bit of a laugh, nothing to be taken too seriously. And certainly the preamble to the track suggests that nothing it will contain is going to rise above the level of schoolyard juvenilia of the least appealing kind. But it's not your imagination that hears malevolence in the way the trio, and fellow-traveller Kurrupt, stick rigidly to a script that follows the title's concept. In between simultaneously deriding any women stupid enough to actually agree to have sex with them while telling any who do that they don't respect them for precisely that reason, they return relentlessly to the notion that merely having sex with one of them isn't any use at all - the women in question will only prove themselves to be of any prolonged entertainment value (clearly, their only purpose in life) if they are happy to be passed around between all four.

millmeister, Friday, 27 December 2013 23:26 (three years ago) Permalink

artwork might be better than the actual music, based on what i heard (though to be fair, i wasnt paying 100% attention). its a bit better, just cos funk is something snoop at least knows, but it seems to be to funk what snoop lion was to reggae.
