I was always put off this group by their terrible terrible name - I just assumed they were hohum whimsical psych/jangle types. But recently I heard a track by them on a comp and it was pretty FAR OUT - tape loops, string sections, post-punk singing/tunage etc. So where's a gd place to start w/'em?

think theres already a thread in the archives somewhere, but i would
suggest Wheres Officer Tuba?
after that, Strangers from the Universe, Mother of All Saints, and
possibly Admonishing The Bishops,
Change Your Mind is a good song too, forget which one thats on

Strangely, I'm not too fond of Where's Officer Tuba? at all--mostly
just so-so alt. versions of songs from Mother of All Saints, if I
recall correctly. But _Strangers from the Universe_ is incredibly great
(esp. its two terrifying highlights, "Socket," which has the sickest
riff ever, and "Noble Experiment," a lullaby that suggests that the
human race should quit being human), and (speaking of terrible terrible
names) last year's _Bob Dinners and Larry Noodles Present Tubby
Turdner's Celebrity Avalanche_ has a couple of phenomenal songs on it
too, esp. "You in a Movie."
Other songs to seek out: "2x4s," "Hurricane," "Waited Too Long," "A
Lamb's Lullaby," "Brains," "Empty Cup."
I kind of think of the name/album titles as a sort of mortification of
the flesh.

I'll second the "Strangers from the Universe" recommendation. That's
probably the most accessible entry point into the Fellers' catalog.
From there I'd go to "Lovelyville", which I consider to be my
favorite Fellers album. After that: "Mother of All Saints", "Wormed
by Leonard", the "Funeral Pudding" EP, "I Hope it Lands". I've only
heard one song off the new one yet. I should pick that up at some
point.

admonishing the bishops is a perfect starting point: cheap and has 4
songs about as remarkable as any by tful282.
bonus points for the sun city girls reference.
