nearly went for 'because of you' automatically but kinda feel like giving love to 'single' or 'mad' (good choice of single, that).

'addicted' is such a great lost non-single

yeah "Miss Independent" is one of those songs I just cannot get tired of no matter how many times it comes on the radio.

yeah i just said that cuz it's a way different drum sound than anything on the radio right now, and we all know that kanye is obsessed with this tribal drum thing now but ne-yo has basically beat him at his own game

2007 was a pretty weak year for them, most of Stargate's beats were "Irreplaceable" knockoffs and Ne-Yo had kind of a sophomore slump.

I won't disagree. Because of You is some weak sauce.

But "Because of You" itself is brilliant.

I love "Single" so much, that's meta done perfectly right there.

eh, who's to say what influenced what, maybe all 3 tracks have nothing to do with each other, but imo "My Love" sounds like a very synthetic strobing keyboard riff, whereas "Flashing Lights" and "Miss Independent" both having kind of a lush harmonic organ texture with more similiar rhythmic cadences.

yeah "my love" is so chopped and stuttering, the "flashing lights"/"miss independent" one is much more fluid i think

both are really fun to play air-keyboard to (although i haven't tried to figure out how to play on an actual keyboard)

The keyboard riffs on "Flashing Lights" and "Miss Independent" have a similar syncopation that's much different and more complex than the more straightforward 8th-8th-quarter note rhythm on "My Love".

love the stuttering keyboards on "Miss Indepenent". didn't vote in this pole, but would have voted for "Mad".

the only one that's an unambiguous reference to a phrase coined by a specific song is "all we do is win," the others are just garden variety phrases that happen to be titles of other songs. unless you think Ne-Yo has created a rich tapestry of quotes from songs by Dr. Dre ("been there, done that"), Lisa Stansfield ("all around the world"), The Spinners ("one of a kind"), The Postal Service ("nothing better") and Brian McKnight ("the only one for me") and isn't just spouting cliches.

well yeah -- i mean clearly those other two are a bit more ambiguous but any r&b singer naming their song "one in a million" is gonna bring ppl directly back to aaliyah & idk "best i ever had" is pretty recent enough that it seems like slightly lazy songwriting idk

i honestly think the title of the song could have been "best i ever had" OR "one in a million" and they only went with the latter because the former had been the name of a hit more recently
