Why don't more bands use flutes?

They sound nice. A few good examples: "Mogwai Fear Satan," Aesop's "Daylight," and Archive's "Last Five."

isn't this question asked every week? i remember when blind mr. jones' record came out it was always described as 'slowdive with a flute'.

Mercury Rev and flutes = great combination. "Chasing a Bee," for a start...

The guitar would be out of a job.

I think Jethro Tull would go around kneecapping people for gimmick infringement.

Essex Green does good work with flutes. Bardo Pond, too.

Flutes suck - even Sonny Sharrock can't save 'Memphis Underground' by jazz flautist Herbie Mann, etc.

Wrong, flutes are good.

Bands don't use them because they don't have the imagination to make 'em sound good. Its all guitars, bass and drums round here.

Just been listening to a Handful of Dust album. On one track we have Bruce Russell banging pots and pans, reciting poetry and giving us a Kazoo solo. It works!

Flutes are great, especially Herbie Mann and Paul Horn. even Sonny Sharrock can't spoil 'Memphis Underground'... etc
