Originally thought of calling it "Poll of America" but then figured a lot of people would misunderstand the title.

Not that much of a fan of his 1986 output, but "Brilliant Mistake" is a nice little song that does also start with one of the best lyrical lines ever. So it's that one then.

Radiohead covered "I"ll Wear It Proudly" rather well. I prefer Nick Lowe's "Indoor Fireworks."

A perfect example of a good album in spite of itself: lots of duds ("Eisenhower Blues," "Poisoned Rose," "Glitter Gulch"), a few astonishing tracks. My pick: "Brilliant Mistake."

This is very tough. Half of this record is completely dope. The other half ain't. On any given day I could vote for "Brilliant Mistake", "Our Little Angel", "Indoor Fireworks", "Little Palaces", "I'll Wear It Proudly", "American Without Tears", "Suit of Lights" or "Sleep of the Just". A lot of the faux rockabilly/country/blues stuff is pretty boring imo. Blood and Chocolate is the better album from the period, but this, that and Punch the Clock are the only Costello albums I fuck with, really. I'm gonna vote "Sleep of the Just" because today is a maudlin Sunday, and that's a gloomy, defeated gem.

Blood and Chocolate is the better album from the period

I dislike that album even more. IMO one of his worst ever albums.

The organ on "I'll Wear it Proudly" kills me, in part because Mitchell Froom rehearses his "Don't Dream It's Over" work.
