I absolutely love Shalabi Effect, but have had problems with the Sam Shalabi solo stuff that I've heard, finding it overly arty for my tastes and seemingly lacking in much actual musical content. However, it seems that this may be based only on hearing "Osama", as looking at alien8 page I couldn't say for sure if I've actually heard any of his other solo stuff. Hmmm.

Maybe I should track down a copy again and relisten. But do you include the Shalabi Effect albums in that accessibility claim? Because I'd say that "Pink Abyss" in particular is a very accessible, nigh-on pop, album.

I definitely like Shalabi Effect enough that I should give Sam Shalabi solo stuff another chance. We'll see how it goes.

Gave it another listen and while it's not as accessible as Pink Abyss, it's definitely his most accessible solo release. Lots of great guitar in there too and shades of Syd Barrett in some parts of tracks. Awesome release.

sheeit i am right now listening to "the trial of st orange." this album is hulla beautiful. yes arty and non musical but so beautiful and such nice sounds! also i think maybe the non-musical criticism is a "western" thing, in the context of actual indian classical music it's got a pretty normal amount of music in it.
